Mid-America Modified Championship
Wednesday thru Friday, March 22-25

By Larry Olson; Mountain Home AR

LOCUST GROVE AR. The 2006 racing season at the Batesville Speedway will continue Wednesday, March 22 with the 10th Annual Mid-America Modified Championship. The four night run will bring an estimated 100 of the top Open-Wheel Modified’s in the Midwest to the track.

The event will culminate a three weekend run for these type of cars, as they competed in two other big events in the region, with the biggest being at the Batesville Speedway. With a $50,000 purse on the line, and $10,000 earmarked for the winner, the best the Midwest has to offer will be at the Batesville Speedway.

Wednesday night will give entrants an opportunity to practice from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. On Thursday, there will be hot lap sessions from 6:00 until 8:00, with time trial qualifying to follow. Time trial qualifying is a rarity for Modified drivers, so Thursday will be an opportunity to guarantee a starting spot at the front of one of Friday’s heat races. Those heats will begin at 7:00 on Friday. Finally, it will be a 7:00 start time on Saturday night with Last Chance Qualifying events. A 50 Lap main event will pit the best 24 cars of the weekend against each other in the feature that will pay the winner $10,000 and still guarantee at least $1,000 to every starter.

Pit gates will open at 3:00pm every day. Pit passes will be $15.00 on Wednesday, $25.00 on Thursday and Friday, and $30.00 on Saturday. The main grandstand will open at 5:30pm every day. Grandstand admission will be free on Wednesday, only $3.00 on Thursday, $10.00 on Friday and $15.00 Saturday. Kids admission will be $3.00 for ages 6-11 every night with kids 5 and under free each night.

Any driver with tech questions can contact Wimp Reed at 870-251-1566 or Mooney Starr at 870-251-1817. Either can be reached at these numbers in the evenings.
