Mid America Racing Series (M.A.R.S.) Kicks Off 2007 With Double Header Weekend

Batesville, Arkansas (April 10, 2007) – Last weekend, the M.A.R.S. tour was scheduled to kick off the 2007 season, however Mother Nature had other ideas forcing the cancellation of the event. As a result, the stars and cars of the M.A.R.S. tour now turn their focus to this Friday and Saturday, April 13th-14th for the season opening events at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

The 2006 season was a strong year for the M.A.R.S. tour with seven different drivers picking up feature wins during the course of the twenty-one race schedule. Twenty one races are already scheduled for the 2007 tour with more dates to be added in the next few weeks. 2007 is shaping up to be another great season with 2006 Champion, Bill Frye (Arkansas), headlining the list of drivers returning to the M.A.R.S. tour. Frye has amassed four series’ titles to date, and will be looking to add a fifth championship this year. Terry Phillips (Missouri), who is the only other driver to ever win a M.A.R.S. championship, owns three series’ titles will be looking to stop Frye in his tracks. Other drivers, who are expected to possibly compete for the championship in 2007 include Jeff Taylor (Arkansas), Jack Sullivan (Arkansas), Will Vaught (Missouri), Steve Rushin (Missouri), Joey Mack (Missouri), Billy James (Missouri), Brandon McCormick (Missouri), Jeremy Payne (Missouri), and many more.

On Friday, April 13th, the 2007 season will get underway at Tri City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois in a $3,000 to win/$500 to start 40 lap event. The facility has gone through a major face lift since the last time that the M.A.R.S. tour visited. What used to be a ½ mile oval, is now a 3/8 mile dirt track The new track features 10 degrees banking in the corners and is 70 feet wide all the way around. Tri-City Speedway is located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO in Pontoon Beach, IL. Take exit 4 off I-270 and go 1/2 mile south on SR 203. On Saturday, April 14th, the resident Martians will visit unfamiliar territory as they invade the state-of-the-art Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri to challenge the MLRA Super Late Model Series. Lucas Oil Speedway is a top notch 3/8 mile, clay oval. This will mark the inaugural visit of the M.A.R.S. tour to the facility and a great deal of excitement has been generated by the event.
