Mid-Season Night at I-55

They line up the sportsman and 4 cyl by points, heats and dashes inverted, the top eighteen in points start the feature heads up by points. Everyone else goes to semi-features lined up by heat finishes, and the reamaining six spots are filled from the consi's. I do not think I-55 does this for latemodels and modifieds, several other tracks do.

Don't know about the money but UMP does not allow tracks to run a late model or modified program by track points. It's a regular format for those classes.

This is NOT true, RAY MARLER does not allow I-55 to run the modifieds and late models by track points. Come on Mike, you are VERY aware that Belleville, Highland, Tri City, Mont. County, Godfrey, etc. etc. run mid season and season championship nights with at least a certain number of drivers LOCKED IN to the front rows of the feature by track points.

You are usually one person I can count on for the facts, but this fact is completely untrue.

Mel Even said saturday night that the top 10 or maybe 12 will start by points. Makes along night for some of us.

Big Bad Bear is correct about Belleville. If I remember correctly weren't the top 10 locked in? I remember Dixon and Martin running at the back of their heat and they just used it as a test session. Standridge never came out for his heat did he? The mid- season deal looks like a perk and a reward for showing up for the regulars. I have no problem with that. It hurts the car count because if you are not a track points chaser you would have a better chance going to Godfrey and maybe getting the right pill draw etc. and start up front. It is tough to win from the back at Belleville in only 25 laps. I would like to see a 30 lap main minimum on this track.

I stand partially corrected. Yes, other tracks do line up by points, and it's not UMP a decision, but the late models and modifieds will run a regular race format at Pevely Saturday night.

Thanks for the update on the format. Are you announcing the race at Tri-city Sunday? Please say yes......

He better be. Neither of the other announcers are able to be there this Sunday!
