Midwest Speed Expo set for January 22 and January 23 in Springfield, IL.

Springfield, IL.

The 2nd Annual MIDWEST SPEED EXPO to be held on January 22 and January 23, 2005 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday to commemorate Springfield Motorsports Week as declared by proclamation of the Honorable TIM DAVLIN, Mayor of the city of Springfield. The event takes place in the beautiful ultra-modern 39,000 square feet heated RICHARD ORR Building. Mayor Davlin will return on Saturday evening to be the guest of honor of both U.M.P. and Northern All Stars and present the championship awards to both series champions.

The proclamation by the Honorable Mayor Davlin reads as follows:

Whereas: After a succesful inaugural event in Springfield, Illinois Terry Young and Midwest Speed, Inc. is presenting the 2nd Annual Midwest Speed Expo at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in the Richard Orr Building on January 22 and 23, 2005

and

Whereas: The United Midwestern Promoters, and the Northern All Stars Late Model Series have selected Springfield, Illinois as the site of their annual late model division awards banquets

and

Whereas: Brian Shirley of Chatham, Illinois has earned the 2004 N.A.L.M.S. championship and will be crowned and celebrated as their champion at the aformentioned festivities

and

Whereas: Two of the leading sprint car manufacturers in the World are located in our fine city with Maxim Chassis claiming the 2004 World of Outlaw Sprint Car championship with Steve Kinser and Eagle Chassis claiming the All Star Circuit of Champions 2004 championship with driver Chad Kemenah

Thereby: Let it be declared that the week of January 17-23, 2005 be designated as "Springfield Motorsports Week" in the city of Springfield

There will be representatives on hand from local tracks as well as the U.M.P. and Northern All Star Late Model organizations as well as the U.M.P. Challenge of Champions and the STACKER 2 Xtreme Dirt Car Series to discuss rules and whats new for their series for the 2005 race season.

A special guest of honor will be gracing us with an appearance on Sunday. Just recently finalized, Midwest Speed has secured an appearance for several hours on Sunday with NHRA Funny Car competitor TIM WILKERSON who recently finished the 2004 NHRA season of competition with a win in the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Baytown, TX as well as the winners Wally at the 17th Annual Autolite Nationals in Sonoma, California to add to a runner-up finish in the O'Reilly Midsouth Nationals in Memphis, Tennessee. Stop out and see Tim as he meets and greets the attendees of this years show and discusses his plans for the 2005 season behind the wheel of the LRS Monte Carlo. The LRS NHRA Funny Car will be on display throughout the show!

Also, NEXTEL Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart's 2005 edition CHILI BOWL midget built and maintained by EAGLE Chassis will be on display throughout the entire weekends activities!

Several of Springfield's finest HooTERS representatives will be on hand to meet and greet the shows attendees and will be selling HooTERS apparel and 2005 calendars and will also be giving away door prizes during the show!


Some lucky show attendee will also walk away with one of the many nice door prizes which include a 25" color tv, a VCR cassette player/recorder, a DVD player, CD players etc. as well as many other nice prizes! Door prizes will be split up and drawn throughout the weekend and you MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!

Shannon Babb, 2001 Topless 100 Champion, 2002 Dirt Track World Champion and 2004 N.A.R.A. Late Model division champion will be on hand signing autographs and will have his car on display as will 2004 Northern All Star Late Model Series champion Brian Shirley. Additional guests will include 2004 U.M.P. Late model division champion Rodney Melvin, Justin Allgaier, ARCA Super Car Series, UMP Late Model, U.S.A.C. Midget and Silver Crown Series veteran as well as Joseph Bommarito with his junior dragster.

Accomplished late model veteran, renowned modified chassis builder and now late model chassis builder Bob "The Tall Cool One" Pierce will join Hoosier Tire Midwest Dirt Late Model Product Manager Gene Smith and hold an informal tire grooving/maintenance seminar for all those in attendance on Saturday at approximately 1:00 P.M.. In the wake of the U.M.P. Late Model division going to a downsized tire selection for the 2005 season this seminar should be very informative and beneficial to all late model competitiors. Some lucky attendees will win U.M.P. late model tires to be given away after the seminar.

Show hours are Saturday January 22, 2005 from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. and Sunday, January 23, 2005 from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Admission is just $7.00 per day and if you have a valid U.M.P. membership card, you will recieve a $2.00 discount when you display your card at the time you purchase your admission ticket. Children under 10 are FREE!
