Richmond, KY-July 18, 2009- The O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Graphic Impressions was in action on Saturday evening at the Scott and Bobby Reed promoted Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY and Mike Marlar would visit victory lane for his third straight series vicitory and second career win in the 22nd Annual Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial event, picking up $5,000 for his efforts at the 3/10 mile semi-banked clay oval.

The win for Marlar was his series leading 17th career win, his third straight series victory, and his fourth series win of the ’09 season. Marlar’s win came aboard his Doors-N-More/DWT Racing/G&R Hydraulics/Marlar and Sons Auto Dismantling/Performance Battery/Stephens Trucking/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply sponsored #157 Rocket Chassis, Estes Race Engines powered machine. The winner’s effort receives product support from MoonDog Performance, ADC, All Star Performance, Bell Helmets, CT Marketing, Erson Cams, Hawk Performance, Hoosier Tire, PBM, Peterson Fluid Systems, PPM, SHY Suspensions, Sweet Manufacturing, Turbo Start, VP Racing Fuel, and Wiles Driveshafts.

Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY would finish in the second position in this event in the seat of his D.J.’s Kitchen Corner/Tri-State Covering sponsored C.J. Rayburn, GCP powered machine, while Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY would score his best series finish of the season in his NWN Distributing/Neat’s Service Center sponsored MasterSbilt, Estes powered unit. Fourth place would go to David Webb on Nicholasville, KY in the David and John Webb owned ORS Auto Body and Collision/Valvoline sponsored C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, Pro Power powered mount, with Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN completing the top five in his Southern Indiana Rock Drilling/MPC Motorsports sponsored MasterSbilt, Cornett powered entry.

The remainder of the top ten in the 22nd Annual Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge event would be 16th place starter Dennis Roberson, Tim Tungate, Jason Barrett, Chris Combs, and Jeff Watson. The 50 lap, $5,000 to win event would slowed by seven caution flags, with one of those resulting in a red flag.

Mike Jewell would take the lead at the drop of the green flag from chief starter Noel Hargis, with Josh McGuire, Dustin Neat, David Webb, and Mike Marlar in pursuit. Marlar would drive around Webb for fourth on lap 2 as Jewell and McGuire battled for the lead. Marlar would begin to pressure Neat and would drive to the high-side in turn four and move to the third slot on lap 4. Jewell would open up about a five car length lead over McGuire by lap 8, while Marlar continued to wheel in on McGuire for the runner-up position. The first caution of the race waved on lap 12 when Victor Lee would roll to a halt on the frontchute with a flat left-rear tire.

Back under green, the front five would remain the same as only one more lap would be made as Aaron Hatton would spin his mount in turn one and head pitside with front-end damage. This restart would again see the front five remain the same before a multi-car pile-up would take place in turn three when contact between cars resulted in Bobby Wolter, Jr. going airborne before turning around, with Victor Lee, Delane Browning, Jim Robinson, and Donnie Everman all piling in, blocking the track, and resulting in a red flag, with Browning and Robinson done. This restart would see McGuire stay right with Jewell, with Marlar just two car lengths on the rear of McGuire, but caution would slow things again on lap 18 as Dustin Linville slowed with a flat right rear tire. This restart would see business pick up among the lead duo and McGuire would turn up the heat on Jewell for the top spot and would make a turn two pass of Jewell for the lead on lap 21. Victor Lee would have his night end when he contacted the turn one guardrail on lap 22 to draw the fourth caution of the race.

The restart not be a go as Buzz Williams, Jerry Rutherford, and Bobby Wolter, Jr. would tangle before evening received the green flag. Finally back under green, McGuire would now be on the point, with Marlar driving around Jewell on the outside to take the runner-up slot. Neat would take third on lap 23, with Jewell falling into fourth and settling into a battle with Webb, while McGuire and Marlar would set a torrid pace up front at this point. As McGuire and Marlar put almost a full straightaway back to third place Neat, Webb would finally win the fourth place battle with Jewell to take the position on lap 32.

The leaders would begin to work slower traffic on lap 36 and Marlar would be right on McGuire’s rear bumper as the final caution flag waved on lap 39 for debris on the race surface in turn one. Marlar would turn up the heat on his challenges for the lead on the restart and would make slight contact with the turn three and four guardrail for several laps, trying to rim-ride his way to the lead. Marlar’s efforts would pay off on lap 42 with a turn four, high-side power move to take the race lead. Marlar would proceed to motor away from the field and see the checkered flag first, followed by McGuire, Neat, Webb, and Jewell.

In preliminary action, Mike Jewell was the Racing Optics Top Qualifier among 31 entries with a lap of 15.257 seconds. Heat race checkered flags went to Jewell in Wayne Bowen Racing Supply heat one, Neat in Graphic Impressions heat two, Webb in C.J. Rayburn Race Cars heat three, and McGuire in All Star Performance heat four.
