MMSP?

If someone were to buy MMSP and run next year on lets say sundays so as not to interfere with the fri/sat shows in the local area here a few questions.....

1. what classes would be the best ( no more than four )

2. what would be a decent payout for each class.....( to win)

3. how many cars would actually come to the track? ( i have calculated that it would take at leaste 125 cars to make it worth it)

4. how many fans would actually come out and support the track

5. who would be willing to assist in getting track sponsors to help with the weekly payout

6. more of a statement.......with the purchase of the track only can a liquor license be persued.....from what i am told the current owner does not believe in it and will not allow it on the property as long as he is the owner....

my wife and I have considered the option because we would like to go into buisness for ourselves, and i have talked to a few people about this already......I'm just trying to get an idea of how many would support the track if it were to be purchased and ran differently

Best classes for the location would probably be UMP Mods, Callaway Style B-Mods, Sportsman, and open 4-cylinders. Payout probably 650 for mods, 400 b-mods, 350 sportsman, 100 hornets. I'm not sure about the Sunday night deal being it's so close to Quincy which is UMP sanctioned. Their car count was actually pretty good last year in mods and b-mods, they just struggled with sportsman rules and deciding which other classes they wanted to run. Saturday nights I think would be ideal but that's just me. Fan count was good at least at the start til they ran some people off. You sell beer or allow people to bring coolers in for added cost, your fan count would go up. I honestly believe a MMP-Callaway alliance on classes would be great. It's 20 minutes from the track in Fulton and the cars there have nowhere within 2 hours to run on Saturdays. Jmo. If you have good track prep, fair officiating, good staff, promote the place, and a timely show, the cars and fans will come.

I would agree with the above. Even with running on Saturday nights there seemed to be a decent car count and great fan interest. However it seemed like the rough conditions of the track scared away racers and the no alcohol rule scared away fans. I understand wanting it to be family friendly but if anyone is drunk and out of control then that is what security is paid for. Obviously I dont know first hand, but there is alot of land around the track which, if for purchase would allow for added parking, pits, and camping if a large race were to ever start there. I agree with the classes that the above mentioned but also throw in some Late Model and sprint events, so maybe we can get another Summer Nationals date back in Missouri.

I have to agree with Josh. If you run Sundays you wont make it. Sat would be best for that area. You don't have a track that way for the racers to race on Sat Nights. If you go with Supers it might not work either. I think I would try a different LM class lets say UMLA but not UMP Crates. UMP Mods would be good B-Mods you might get 15 or so. Street Stocks might be a option.

The only problem with ULMA is you already have Wheatland and Moberly running them on Saturdays. I like the class but don't know if its realistic to have a third track for them on Saturdays and only one on Fridays. It may work if you give it time to grow and get a bigger following but it'd be risky IMO. A good cheap street stock/pure stock/bomber class in the area would be good I think but you'd have to have multiple tracks with the same package to go to that and give it time to grow so I'm not sure it's a plausible option. The street stocks/sportsman in this area are just out of control rules wise for what they pay and the car counts. B-mods I would say you could get 20 easy weekly with the same rules they ran last year. A-mods I don't see a problem getting 20 weekly either. Figuring out your other 2 support classes will make or break you though. It's a tough call.

Josh I was just giving idea's on a different LM class is all. I don't think UMP Lates will work unless you pay what you say.

A suggestion also with the facility itself would be to buy the little spot of land that I guess the previous owner still owns. I still get a bad taste in my mouth walking up and seeing that crap sitting there. Buy it, move the crap and make it a parking lot or something.

I would go with a sat night stock car race and put in a 1/8 mile drag strip for Sunday day time racing. Don't get me wrong I like stock cars but there is no drag strip close to there. I don't think the drag strip that is going to be built out that way will ever be built. I think you would get a lot of drag cars. Just my thought

I know, just my opinion on the ULMA deal. I absolutely loved seeing the Super Lates back there weekly. And they really had a good car count most of the time. Put on a great show if the track prep was good. Would love to see it work but takes a good payout and good track prep to get those guys to come weekly.

Jimmy, any word when they are going to actually build it? Drove by there coming home from the Monster Trucks at Moberly and it looks like they havent touched it.

i think sunday would work look at grantie when they was a sunday track run the same classes as i55 and match there pay it will work and rules

One of the owners was making PR at the Boone County Swap Meet in Feb and he told me he wanted it open Mid May and it's been a 7-8 project not yet completed.

MMSP has one thing going for it. It and it's owners/management reputation can't get much worse.

That drag strip that is going to be built out there has been all talk for three years now and nothing is even done yet. I have a drag car and everyone I have talk to has wrote it off.

ok....drag strips are not what i wanted to hear....i am a dirt guy.....previous racer/ car owner........retired military so i have the time to do all the track prep......just need some more input about what classes and payout......and hopefully sponsors ( like how to get them)......that sort of stuff.....

not saying this is what i will do.... but the options are there if we choose to go that route.....im just not going to jump in and not have a good plan first......

also, i thought about saturdays as well but i was curious about how pevely and highland would affect the car count

I thought last year they should of picked up the 360 sprint class instead of late models. Lake Ozark always had a decent car count with them and since it didn't open last year, seems they could of made that class work last year at MMSP.

If you do go with 360's you can always have a LM special or 2 a year. The thing is stick with the pay outs and don't drop them like Del and Randy did to the drivers. Be fair with the calls and DO NOT show favoritism from one driver to another.

Saturday nights, ump late, ump mods, b mods, and a sportsman/streetstock class. Maybe sprints too. I'd alternate weeks with ump late and sprint's, and if a 4cyl class is attempted alternate with the sportsman/streets.
Plenty of Cars were there in the lates, and both mod classes last year. It was the two entry level ones that struggled with car counts. B mods even struggled some weeks. Support classes take time to grow, that's What killed it after last year, too high of expectations the 1st year! The lates, sprint's, and a mods will have people that will travel there. The other thing to be aware about sprint's is there may be a good amount of cars But the fan counts may not be there. Lake Ozark had plenty of sprints But I knew more fans drove past the place to go watch latemodels elsewhere. The place can make it and ump late are a must! Without them you lose, never gonna be enough crates in the area because of ULMA and with another ULMA track running 75mi or so away that would probably not work. Not sure if ULMA will even work at moberly yet. Some people are intimidated by a big high bank half mile. If they struggle there ULMA could be an option But that's a big if? Your going to have a headline class of either lates or sprints and good start money of $150-200 and $1200-2000 to win depending on how you scale down the pay drop off. If ya are able to get ULMA a payscale same as Lucas oil speedway and cars will come, But might take a year or two to build counts up to where Lucas is. ULMA can headline and draw, just look at Lucas they averaged 26 a week last season several weeks in the 30s. I have seriously looked into this and mmp. I would own the place right now if in 2010 the price had been What it ended up selling for last year. Would have bought it from the current owners now if I didn't have all my money tied up in apartment buildings. My wife Kim helped run a track in Denver in the 90's so we could have done it But guess it wasn't meant to be.
Sorry to ramble But I have been somewhat obsessed with mmp at times since it's inception and decline and hopes over the years. Lol
Next year I might even have time to help, if you do open it back up you thinking this year or Maybe wait till next?
