question about a car i saw in the highland pictures from last week. Is it now legal to have enclosed engine compartments on modifieds?http://www.stlracingphotos.com/High...-Mods/44782889_4ZhrMh#!i=3589985080&k=RdKMcvN

the 88 car has panels covering the sides of the engine

the ump modified rule book para 15.6 para D state: the engine compartment will remain open. any side panels in the engine compartment will not be allowed.

also it is hard to tell but rule 15.6 para D and E also cover firewall/door area and state the top of the doors with only allowing 8 inches extended at the bottom of the door. it also looks like the top of the doors extend forward on this particular car

not trying to stir the pot just curious if next year this will become a thing to see

Is the specific section of rules that you are referring to from the rule book for the UMP modifieds (A-mods) or UMP Limited/Pro modifieds (B-mods). Also I believe that highland's rulebook states that for B-mods, there are no body rules.
Hope this helps to answer your question

yes i looked at ump modified rules on dirt car's website. is that not correct? or if there is no body rules someone should just bring a sprint car

just looked at highlands site. the rules link didn't work but i am guessing i should look up UMP 2013 sport mod rules.

doesn't tri city follow A-mod rules just a few edit I.E carburetor and such?

That pic is of B-Mods racing at Highland. Tracks pretty much made up their own body rules this past year for B-Mods.

wow the body rules are open. run an enclosed engine compartment. front fenders with a skinny nose. roof that acts as a wing. wedged out deck.

surprising i guess

interesting is no 4 bar cars allowed

Ump needs to set the rules and every track should have to follow if there going to be ump thats the problem every track is different and tracks shouldn't be able to change them to fit what they want. Same for all classes that way if you want to go to a different track and your car is built for ump rules you can run. Not have to call and find out what there rules are. I think it would save alot of head aches. Jmo

I will agree with everything you said racer6e except leave ump out of it. Have all the tracks come together and make their own set of rules. If ump wants to use the rules that a dozen tracks came up with , so be it.

yea, then everyone would be complaining that they can't travel outside the STL area to race.

Fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter what rules are decided to be used, half the people will still be complaining.

I will agree with you jimmy but my point is to beat ump to a mandatory set of uniformed rules. We live in the heart of ump country and I would think that if Tri City Highland Federated Macon brownstown clay county etc and whoever else may or may not run b mods comes up with their own set of rules that maybe ump will listen.

Promoters should be dictating to UMP not the other way around. Especially with the circle jerk idiots who run UMP. They know nothing about race cars!
