After a Wednesday night rainout at Shepp's Speedway in Alexander, Illinois, the Monster Midwest Series will be at LaSalle Speedway tonight on Thursday May 28.

The UMP Late Model series put together by local promoter Don Hammer, started it's exciting 2009 season at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Indiana on April 25. After getting a flat tire in his heat race, Bloomington's Jason Feger started in the back of the semi-feature and won, then started in the back of the feature event and continued on to pick off cars one by one and pick up the win and $2000 check. Following closely behind were Eric Smith of Shirley who had led most of the race until the closing laps, Frank Heckenast Jr. of University Park, Richie Hedrick of Urbana and Ryan Unzicker of
El Paso.

Continuing on to Lincoln Speedway the following night, another exciting battle took place between Feger and Steve Sheppard Jr. of Berlin. After both drivers won their respective heat races, Sheppard started on the pole and commanded the first few laps of the feature. Drawing the fourth starting spot in the feature, Feger made his way past Kevin Weaver of Gibson City who started third and Heckenast Jr. who started second. Feger and Sheppard Jr. then began their side by side battle, swapping the lead back and forth until the final laps of the feature when Sheppard Jr. took advantage of a lapped car and passed Feger on the last lap and took home the win. Following Feger across the line were Weaver, Unzicker, and Smith.

After the first two events, with 62 drivers competing so far, leading the $15,000 points chase is Feger followed by Smith, Unzicker, Sheppard Jr. and Hedrick. With a very strong field of drivers competing for the top prize of a Rayburn chassis in the Rookie of the Year battle, Ryan Unzicker is leading the points with Brandon Sheppard of Berlin following in second.

In addition to the drivers following the series, scheduled to make his first apparance this weekend is Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Arkansas.

Grandstand gates open tonight at 5:00 with Pit Gates opening at 4:00 and racing begins at 7:30.

Also racing tonight will be UMP Modifieds for $1000 to win.
