B-MOD #297

I think no matter which night is chosen a smart addition would be the B-Mod class. There are several cars sitting around with no place to run granted a lot of them are 4-link cars. The biggest expense will be converting back to 3 link (should they go USRA) which is an expense, yet not going to break the bank. A lot of the UMP B-mods that race in this area are really nothing more then a UMP A-mod with a 4 barrel and a 9" rear end.
A lot of guys that enjoy racing don't have the means or the sponsorship to run in the UMP A-mod class. To me you have to have serious backing, sponsorship or a screw loose to justify spending 25 to 35 thousand dollars on an engine to go out and compete for 750 to 1000 dollars to win. If that's your choice and you have that ability then congratulations and consider yourself very lucky.
For those of us that grew up in the days of IMCA and WISSOTA, modifieds were an affordable class that made sense and back then they actually had tech guys that new what to tech and actually used the equipment needed to do the job. When was the last time anyone has seen any true tech inspections happen in this area? Even When Montgomery was open a few seasons ago there was no such thing as a tech inspection cause they "didn't want to piss anyone off" and them not come back.
Well here is a news flash....RACERS CHEAT!!! There are the back bone of innovation! Take A look at you local speed shop catalog....how many of the parts that you see were once considered "illegal" until someone saw the opportunity to make money on them?
The problem locally is the guy with the biggest wallet is always going to run up front or win....as we all know speed is a matter of money, causes you to ask the age old question of "how fast can you afford to go?"
I believe with the right engine, suspension and tire package, as well as tech officials who aren't afraid to piss someone off or are "friends, buddies, or associates" of racers or their teams the USRA B-Mod class could be a very affordable class for the racer as well as entertaining for the crowd!
