Montgomery wins Malden Season Finale

The 2005 racing season at the Malden Speedway ended Friday night with Tim Montgomery winning handily in the Sprint car feature. Greg Sparks capped his championship season with another win in Hobby stock. Paul Reeder won in Street Stock following a disqualification of the apparent winner. David Wofford won the first ever Mini-Stock race at the Track. It was announced that Mini-Stocks would be taking the place of Cruisers next year.

Tim Montgomery topped a small field of Sprint cars in the final race of the season. Montgomery opened a five second lead on the field in dominating from start to finish in the feature. Mike Ward was the best of the rest in second, with Steve Short in third. Montgomery also won the heat race.

Greg Sparks won in Hobby Stocks, also leading from start to finish. Sparks opened a considerable lead on the field in the first half of the race.
Claudie Cook took over second midway through the race and started chasing down Sparks. Cook closed to Spark's rear bumper under the white flag, but it did not have enough to challenge for the lead on the final lap. Chris Kelley, Johnny Houart, and Scott Tracer rounded out the top five. Sparks and Dee Kelly won the heat races.

Paul Reeder was awarded the Street Stock victory when apparent winner Kyle Berry failed the vacuum check following the race. Reeder overtook Jeff Beeson following a lap seven restart to move in behind Berry. Beeson held off Greg Casey late in the race to hold onto the second position. Chris Kelley and Billy Hopkins rounded out the top five. Chris Cannon in the 42C also failed the vacuum test after an apparent fifth place finish. Heat winners were Casey and Beeson.

The Malden Speedway showed of things to come with the first ever 4-Cylinder Mini Stock race. David Wofford took the top honors in an impressive run in the feature. Wofford overtook early leader Eric French on the second lap and was never challenged as he opened up a full straight lead on the field.
French held on for second with Butch Hartman taking third. French won the heat race.
