Jeff Moss of Harrisburg AR survived a late challenge from Todd Hall to pick up his first Late Model win of the year at the Malden Speedway Friday night.
The track was celebrating Plaza Tire Fan Appreciation night. Joining Moss in victory lane were Mike Francis in Modifieds, Tony Anglin's second win in Hobby Stock, and last year's street stock champion Aaron Darby gets his first win of the 2005 season. Holbrook Mitchell won in E-Mods and the team of Tyler & Bill Shoen all the way from Brighton Mo won in Cruisers.

Jeff Moss won one of the closest races in Malden Speedway history when he outlasted Todd Hall at the wire by inches for his first win of the year.
The race opened with Bart Richardson, in his first Late Model race, grabbing the lead from the outside front row. Richardson and Moss separated themselves from the pack and were soon in lapped traffic. On lap nine, a slower car in turn four blocked Richardson and Moss quickly grabbed the lead. Moss and Richardson opened a three second lead on third place Hall when caution fell on lap 15 of the scheduled 20. Given a second chance at the lead, Hall came around Richardson for second and was soon hounding Moss.
The pair raced side by side the final two laps and were separated by inches at the finish line. Richardson held on for third. Charles LaPlant and Kenny Rumble rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Moss and Richardson.

Mike Francis has been a regular in the top five this year at the speedway, but Friday night he picked up his first win against some very stiff competition. Francis grabbed the lead from the outside front row and held it for five laps before Robert Powers made a move for the lead. Powers grabbed the lead coming out of turn four on the fifth lap. For the second race in a row Powers suffered mechanical problems while leading the race and picked up a DNF instead of a possible victory. Francis retook the lead on Powers exit and pulled away to a comfortable margin and left the real battle for second. Tony Anglin and Larry Hull swapped the position several times in three laps of side-by-side racing in the late stages of the race before Anglin secured the position. Hard charging Gary Beard was closing in but had to settle for fourth after starting 19th out of the 20 cars. Ronnie Vernon rounded out the top five. The win vaulted Francis to the top of the point standings over Robby Arnold who suffered mechanical problems and did not finish the race. Heat winners were Troy Fowler, Francis, and Mike Powers.

It was one of those nights for the Street Stocks as 10 cautions fell on the
15 lap feature some what spoiling Aaron Darby's first win of the 2005 season. Darby grabbed the lead from early pacesetter, Red Rice on lap two and would lead the rest of the way despite numerous challenges during the restarts after caution. For the second race in a row, Scott Wicker moved through the field to take second, this time starting mid pack. Mike Elliot picks up his first top five finish as he ran third. Paul Reeder took fourth despite a 360 spin while running second on lap seven that dropped him several spots. Coot Wilson took fifth. Heat winners were Rice, Darby, and Donna Tilley.
