Mother Nature did her best to put a damper on the competition at Quincy Raceways Sunday night but racers and track crew foiled her plans. Bob Dale picked up his first ever feature win in the Miller Lite A-Modifieds while Mark Burgtorf continued his winning ways in the Budwieser IMCA Late Models.

Burgtorf picked up his fifth points feature win in eight attempts Sunday night. The veteran driver has been on a rampage at Quincy by winning seven of the ten total feature events run for Late Models this season. This weeks victory was looking like a Sunday Cruise until the final few laps. Burgtorf took over the top spot from Sam Halstead on the eleventh lap after starting in the fifth row.

The #7 pulled out to a comfortable lead until Jamie Wilson made a charge through the field to challenge Burgtorf on the last lap of the 30 lap main event. Wilson’s charge to challenge for the win came from the fourth spot with four laps to go. Wilson had held onto fourth for several laps and looked like that was where he was going to finish until he found something on the bottom side of the quarter mile oval. Wilson first picked off Lonnie Bailey in third on the twenty sixth lap then set his sites on Gary Russell second. Wilson charged by Russel on the last lap and made a valiant effort to catch Burgtorf at the checkered flag but came up a car length short at the flag and had to settle for second with Russell in third, Bailey in fourth and Joey Gower in fifth. Clint Kirkham and Dustin Neese were the heat race winners with Bailey taking the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Bob Dale finnaly got his first ever Miller Lite A-Modified feature win Sunday Night. Dale led the final 17 circuits and held off the challenges of Michael Long over the last twelve laps to take the win. Long settled for second with Jason Connoyer in third, Ryan Meyer in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger in fifth. Weisenberger and Henry Delonjay were the heat race winners.

The B-Modifieds put on a pretty good feature event as only three yellow flags marred the 18 lap main event. Wes Mayfield grabbed his second feature win of the season after holding off the challenges of Wyatt Lance over the last few laps. Lance settled for second with Tony Dunker in third, Rodney Gower in fourth and Rob Carter in fifth. The points race was scrambled up again as Joe Bliven and Marty Hull both had problems during the event and scored finishes deep in the field. Dunker now holds a four point margin over Hull in second. Dunker and Lance were the heat race winners with Rodney Gower taking home the hardware in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Jim Leffew was the winner of the B-Main.

Eddie Dieker came from his fourth row starting spot to take the lead of the Bomber Feature event on the sixth lap of the eighteen lapper. Dieker then held off Bruce Hatfield for the win over the final 12 circuits to take his second feature win of the season. Brian Kenning scored third, with Billy Genenbacher in fourth and Jeff Kindhart in fifth. Kindhart, Hatfield and Jeff Delonjay took the heat race wins with Steve Carlin grabbing the top spot in the B-Main.

Points racing action will continue at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 6 with the Mineke Muffler Night at the Races. Gates open at 4:30 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing action starting at 6:30pm. Also on tap this week at Quincy Raceways will be the second of three Night’s of Destruction on Thursday July 3.
