For any questions about Mt. Vernon Raceway, please call Stephanie at 618-931-6533.Ms. Clark is the one making he decisions concerning the raceway at the present time. Please do not call Rick's Towing Inc. about the raceway.

Thank you,

why dont they just make a decision already, instead of keeping racers and fan guessing, if they decided to run, how would the track be anyway???how hard is it to post whats going on????

Mt. Vernon not opening

I just spoke to some lady on the phone at this number and she told me I shouldn't be calling this number because it is unlisted and a private residence and also told me they will NOT be opening this year. Take it for whatever you want but you can call this number yourself and find out.

haha, that's funny. sounds like a game of pass the buck if you ask me. the summer nationals date is Tuesday and it sounds like the pressure is on. maybe someone can ask the Hecks at tri-city tonight and get a better answer. I really hope they run but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

why dont u make up your minds . i am tired of hearing about the the opening and not opening. there is alot of people waiting for this track to open . please get it toughter and open.

let me assure you of one thing, i can only speak for myself if this was a decision solely of Rick Hecks we would not be having this discussion on the board, the track would be open. I do not like being used as a pawn. I was told she was opening the track. I and other people that i have paid has the track ready to open other than mowing. I was informed at 11pm last nite when i got home that Ms. Clark called and said she would not be opeing the track. No saturday racing and NO summer nationals! I'm sure Ms. Clark has received a few phone calls today but nothing close to the amount of phone calls that i receive thurs thru sat, 500 - 600 a week!! Ms. Clark has out voted me and that is why her number is posted, to answer any questions the racers or fans might have. I apologize to everyone that i have told the track would open. but again, it is beyond my control.
Thank you,
Rick Heck

newspaper

I was told the Centralia Sentinel reported today that it will be opening. So sad that it goes that far, and will not happen.

really sad news...thanks for posting Rick. hopefully UMP will come out with something officially cancelling it in the near future.

well, i have many reasons not to,but im gonna go ahead and give my views on this subject.
this track has operated very marginally for the last 15 years and has never really shown any signs of really being a player in dirt track racing for quite a long time. they have an absentee landlord who hasnt made any improvements for as long as i can remember. these alone dictate that a dirt track will die. the sad thing is that they got a summernationals date and they cant comply. in my mind, this lessons what a summernationals date does as far as provididing prestige for a track. this track will never suceed with whatever management it may have, and i doubt the landlords are willing to spend the capital it would take to make this a viable option. its done, pure and simple. no point in worrying about it anymore. it wasnt the accident that made this happen, its been poor managment for years!
grieve as long as you must, but this babys been dead for at least 10 years.
i used to go there a lot,but ive gotten used to the idea that its gone.
and the goofy thing is ,there probably wont be anything done on the site
other then to make it a big weed field, nobody really wants it. its all been done with mirrors and subterfuge, no one really wants the site.
if they did ,something would have happened by now,too far off the interstate by established roads to be economically viable for any type of developement by commercial interests. and maybe this is a good thing as well.it can only strengthen the other tracks that continue to operate.
one less distraction, one less option, can only make better managed tracks seem like a better choice for racers and fans.
these are my own personal obsevations and are not associated with anyone other then me. please dont attribuate them with any other track as frankly,i havent been to that many other tracks, brownstown once, hmmm. well, i have been to most others but thats not my point.
time to give up on this one, hasnt been a good place to go for a long time.
i understand the thought that any track closing isnt a good thing but this ****ers been dead for a long time, time to say the prayer and let it go.
and support the tracks that still try to make a go of it rather then pretend they are still in business. this one isnt.

Just take a bulldozer to it and end it!!! I don't think Heck knows what the "heck" he is doing... Rick just give it up, you tried and it isn't going to work. Just say it!!! You know you want to!!!

done

i HATE TO SAY IT BUT WHATS DONE IS DONE I AM UNSUBSCRIBEING FROM THIS AND ANY OTHER THREAD THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH Mt vernon raceway its a sad goodbye!

Sounds like a feud amongst owners with too much power in this womans hands if she is the one making all the desicions. What does the other owners have to say? One out of four isn't a majority. So sad.:(
