DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has issued penalties, suspensions and fines to the No. 48 team in the Sprint Cup Series, as a result of rules infractions found on Feb. 17 during opening-day inspection for the Daytona 500.

The No. 48 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the rule book or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20-2.1E (if in the judgment of NASCAR officials, any part or component of the car not previously approved by NASCAR that has been installed or modified to enhance aerodynamic performance will not be permitted -- unapproved car body modifications).

As a result, crew chief Chad Knaus and car chief Ron Malec have been suspended from the next six Sprint Cup Series championship events, suspended from NASCAR until April 18 and placed on NASCAR probation until May 9. Additionally, Knaus has been fined $100,000.

Driver Jimmie Johnson and car owner Jeff Gordon have been penalized with the loss of 25 driver and 25 owner points, respectively.

Who really gives a sh_t? I don't and I'm sure most on this board really dont care what crapcar does... They have ran it in the dirt and its not even worth watching anymore.. put some good ol live dirt races on once a week and crapcar would be done.

I give a ****! So hey d i c k boy thats why i freaking posted it. I now see why everyone on here thinks your an idiot. If you do not like my post which pretty much states on the title NASCAR then let me give you a piece of advise DO NOT CLICK ON THE DAMN THING AND READ YOU FLIPPING IDIOT!!!!!!! Why dont you just find another play ground to be an idiot on. I would hate to have to live my live with such a terrible outlook on life like you must have because everything i read is so negative that you post.

Only one person gonna stop me from playing at the play ground and that's Jimmy D... As for your advise on reading it use it your self buddy and don't ready mine jack$ff.

Ill be the first to cast a vote to send you off the island.

I can not see how they can fine and suspend a guy for a car that has not made a lap. Pre inspection is just that, if it does not make it fix it. Seems harsh at least. 100k for 2.5 miles. Hell 80% if the field would not fit the template after the race.

I have a question for someone who has some knowledge of how Nascar monitors these suspensions. I assume Knaus can work on the car at the shop all week. Is he allowed to come to the track for practice and qualifying? I would guess the answer is: "No." During the race, is there anything that keeps him from communicating with the crew by cell phone from where he is watching the race at? If there isn't, the suspension is useless.

Looks like you are the only one so far that doesn't care about this thread dirtball. You must care though as you took the time out of your very busy day to post multiple times... All within 30 minutes of the post you were responding to.

I agree that if it's before they run any laps it shouldn't be a fine, they should be required to fix and recertify accordingly... But, it's nascar's game, gotta follow their rules! Oh, and I'll second the vote above...

The car has to go to NASCAR tech center before it can be raced, That is where they measure it and then place tags on the parts and pieces that NASCAR mandates. I read where it passed the tech center but when it showed up at Daytona it did not. Either someone fooled with it or the inspection at Daytona was different from the tech center. Hendrick/Gordon I am sure will appeal this.

Did Johnson even get 25 points at Daytona, Will they start the season with negative points. That would probably be a first for any racer

I read on the CBS sports website that Johnson will go into the next race with -23 points.

I brought this thread back to the top before it went to the second page so I could hopefully get an answer to my questions. My main question is does Nascar do anything to keep a suspended crew chief from communicating with the crew during the race by cell phone or some other electronic gagdet?

In the past they haven't barred communication. And it would be nearly impossible too...

Even with the live coverage on TV and text messaging there would certainly be a delay to any instructions that he could give the stand-in CC, so ultimately they would still be at a disadvantage...

My whole issue is this......seems its just 1 certain person in the Hendricks organization that seems to be pushin the limits way out of bounds. Did you see the piece they cut out compared to what it should have been??? Wow is all i can say. If i was Hendrick.....id be asking this question...........if he plays with the rules so much and im sure learns quite alot(pays for it too at times)................is he really a team player so to speak? Im not demeaning his motive. But just wondering how much info he learns on a week to week basis playing games like this is he keeping to hisself and not letting the organization know of that said info? Just like the deal last year where he radioed Jimmy and demanded he wreck the back end because it wont make tech after the races. That was a fact and outright cheat
