NASCAR goes to knockout qualifying format

Another desperate attempt to grab new 'fans' while alienating the fans who supported NASCAR for years. Why not split the field into 4 heats and line them up based on the results? Also, no provisionals. I like the NHRA approach- go fast or go home no matter who you are. The next round of 'improvements' to the unnecessary Chase will probably be a bigger joke than this knockout qualifying idea. So thankful we can watch local tracks that race in the traditional way!

There will be a lot of good cars wrecked in qualifying. Also having 50 cars nose to tail on a short track is going to be a joke.

To be quite frank, qualifying is boring. I think not only will this put more seats in the stands, but more people will watch it on TV, as well.

And Chevy Power, they race 43 cars on a short track all the time, for hundreds and hundreds of laps. Is the Bristol night race a joke as well?

You are correct. NASCAR qualifying is boring. Part of the reason is there is no drama is due to the fact only 1 to 3 cars are actually competing to make the field. All the regulars are guaranteed a starting spot so all they are doing is trying to get the best pit stall. Another reason is the cars are so over-regulated that you already know what the fast time will be and there is no excitement about setting new track records. This may boost TV ratings for qualifying but I doubt we will see a big jump in ticket sales for the day before the race.
