BLOOMQUIST NEW RANKINGS LEADER, $100,000 DREAM ON DECK Dirt Late Models by Gary Jacob Turlock, CA… (June 6) - For the first time since the 2006 season started back in January, someone besides Steve Francis is on top of the Latemodelracer.com National Dirt Late Model Rankings. California transplant Scott Bloomquist from Tennessee only raced once during the first weekend of June, but collected a $10,000 win in Kentucky and that was enough to him past Francis by just 9 points. Bloomquist has now scored 7 seven major wins this year and Francis is still stuck on the six win total. On the basis of two WoO $10,000 to win victories, Rick Eckert is now solidly in third with 7 wins. Earl Pearson Jr is ranked fourth and Chub Frank stands in fifth. With a busy week of racing, Billy Moyer Jr has climbed back into sixth. The current top ten is rounded out by Wendell Wallace, Shannon Babb, Chris Wall and Bill Frye. Babb had a huge weekend of UMP racing, getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a trio of $10,000 to win shows. Chris Wall continues to dominate the Mississippi, Louisiana area as two more feature wins gives him 12 of the $2000 to win or better variety. Clint Smith is just outside the current top ten after a $5000 win in Georgia that gave him six wins in 2006. Darrell Lanigan is threatening to break into the top ten after a huge week that saw him follow up his first win with a pair of second place runs in $10,000 to win shows. Randy Korte was also strong in the same events as Babb and has climbed into the top 20. Illinois racers Brian Shirley and Joe Morris make their first rankings appearance based on success in the Tri Track UMP weekend.

The importance of this weekend’s big event is reflected in the fact that a win in the $100,000 to win Dream XII at Eldora Speedway on June 10 will carry 454.5 ranking points and the current leader has only accumulated 588 with all of his season success. A driver who has done nothing this year would immediately move into fifth in the rankings based on that Eldora win.
There are a handful of other big money specials on the Dream weekend as Wall ’s sanctioning group MSCC has one of their richest races paying $5000 to win in Alabama on Saturday and also runs for $2000 to win in Mississippi on Friday night. Clarys Speedway has another $6500 to win show.
