NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS FINAL POINTS RACE SATURDAY AT COLUMBUS SPEEDWAY

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on Saturday night for its final point race of the 2008 season. Round 16 will be a part of the Possum Town Grand Prix, and several drivers will be vying for the Top 10 point fund paying positions at the “Baddest Bullring In The South.”

Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA leads Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL by 66 points going into the race. All Brindle as to do to win the Championship is start the main event, as 48 points separate first place to the last place in the feature race. As the point leader, Brindle would be guaranteed a provisional starting spot.

A championship for Brindle would be a nice follow-up to his 2007 Rookie of the Year performance. The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship pays $20,000, a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new chassis.

Boutwell is fresh off his first win of the season on November 8 at Avenger Motor Speedway in Greenville, AL. While Boutwell still has an outside chance for the championship, he will also have to race hard to maintain the second spot in the point standings. Just 32 points separate second through fifth in the National point standings.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings, and he also leads the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings. Knowles is just 14 points behind Boutwell in the National points chase.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year points, Knowles leads Hunter Peacock of Macon, GA by 80 points. Peacock is sixth overall in the National point standings. All Knowles has to do the win the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year title is simply show up. The 2008 Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year Award pays $5,000, and a new chassis.

Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA and Chris Tays of Corinth, MS are tied for the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings, and are 18 points behind Knowles. Tays leads the Hard Charger point standings by 15 points over Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS, who is seventh overall in the National points.

At each series race, a driver earns one point for each position he improves from the start of the race to the end of the race. The driver with the most Hard Charger points at the end of the season receives a $1,000 bonus.

Peacock and Cooley are in a battle for the sixth spot in the National point standings with eight points separating them. Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA is in the eighth spot, and is looking good to make his fourth straight Top 10 finish in the NeSmith Chevrolet National point standings.

Three drivers are battling for the last two point fund paying spots in the season finale. Just 44 points separate ninth-place Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL, tenth-place Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA.

Turner is the only driver to compete in every series event since its inception in 2005, and is trying to make the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings for the fourth straight season.

A highly competitive field of cars and drivers are expected for the Saturday night race at Columbus Speedway, as many of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series stars from across the country will take on the National Touring drivers. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers will compete in the Fall Nationals at Columbus Speedway on Friday night.

Columbus Speedway will host an open practice session on Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On both Friday and Saturday at Columbus Speedway, gates open at 10 a.m. with the drivers meeting at 1 p.m. and preliminary action scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. After the preliminary events, the track will be reworked, and the evening session with main events is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Race of Champions and Race of Regions heat races will be run on Friday during the afternoon session. The NeSmith Chevrolet Fall Nationals qualifying, B-Mains and the 30-lap $2,000-to-win main event will be run during the Friday night session. The Race of Champions and Race of Regions will be run during the Saturday afternoon session.

Round 16 of the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring Series will be run during the Saturday night session with qualifying, B-Mains, and the 40-lap $3,000-to-win main event will be run during the Saturday night session.

Columbus Speedway is located seven miles east of Columbus, MS 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82. Takes Stokes Road, 1.5 miles north of U.S. Highway 82, then turn right on Lacy Road.
