CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 27-week season opens this Saturday night at six tracks in five different states. Drivers will compete with each other using a points system that counts their best 14 weekly finishes. The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will pocket $10,000 out of the $20,000 point fund.
Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion. In 2013, Daspit became the first driver in the eight-year history of the series to post a perfect score of 700 points by winning 14 50-point races.
Highlighting Week 1 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will be the $1,000-to-win Jimmy Thomas Memorial Race at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL. Tracks also hosting Week 1 events are Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.
Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS has been red hot in pre-season NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model action. Arnold drove The Strength Center Trak-Star to victory on March 15 at Whynot Motorsports Park, and followed that up with a win on March 22 at St. Tammany Raceway.
The dirt late model race cars that compete in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance 604 and 602 Circle Track Racing Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The 604 Engine is an aluminum-head 400 horsepower engine and the 602 Engine is a steel-head 350 horsepower engine.
