NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR AUGUST 17

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Larry Harrod of Plains, GA was the big winner during Week 20 competition in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. Harrod became an East Region championship contender by driving the Harrod Logging Scorpion to two wins, number six and seven, on Friday and Saturday nights at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

The two victories moved Harrod from ninth to third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 732 points after seven wins, 14 top five finishes, and 15 top ten finishes in 16 starts.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL leads the East Region standings with 772 points based on his best 16 finishes after seven wins, 17 top fives, and 19 top tens in 20 starts driving the All-Star Graphics Warrior. Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL is second in the East Region standings with 736 points based on his best 16 finishes driving The Racing Zone GRT to one win, 15 top fives, and 18 top tens in 21 starts.

Behind Harrod in the fourth spot is Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL with 728 points based on his best 16 finishes after one win, 15 top fives and 16 top tens in 17 starts. Dana Eiland of Salem, AL had two second-place efforts in the Andy’s Auto Parts GRT behind Harrod at EAMS over the weekend. Eiland is fifth in the East Region standings with 718 points based on his best 16 finishes after four wins, 15 top fives, and 19 top tens in 22 starts.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is sixth in the East Region standings with 693 points based on his best 16 finishes after driving the Gar’s Cash Flow Mastersbilt to one win, 11 top fives, and 22 top tens in 30 starts. Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL is seventh with 678 points based on his best 16 finishes in 16 starts with four wins, 11 top five and 13 top tens in The Ride 95.3 Scorpion.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is eighth in the East Region standings with 676 points after five wins, and 12 top five finishes driving the Martin Racing Barry Wright. Martin has just 15 starts and can earn full points for one more East Region event.

Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL reached the 16-start mark during NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region Week 20 competition, and moved up to the ninth spot with 656 points after ten top fives, and 11 top tens in the Millennium Mechanical Mastersbilt.

Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 645 points based on his best 16 finishes. Anderson has six wins, 18 top fives, and 19 top fives in 20 starts driving the Jacob Anderson Company GRT.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action on Saturday night, Jerry Goodwin of Wilsonville, AL drove the CRM Motors GRT to his fourth win of the season at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Despite being 16th in the East Region standings, Goodwin is still a title contender, as he has just 13 starts, and can earn full points for three more events.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS continues to lead the West Region standings. Keeton netted two points with a second-place finish on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS to bring his total up to 782 points based on his best 16 finishes in 25 starts.

Keeton has six wins, 21 top five finishes, and 22 top ten finishes driving the Boland Performance Trak-Star. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS traveled to Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN to earn ten bonus points at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event. That moved Arnold to within 18 points of Keeton in the West Region points chase.

Arnold has 764 points based on his best 16 finishes after a series-leading 31 starts in the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star. Arnold also has a series-leading nine wins, a series-leading 24 top fives, and a series-leading 30 top tens.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS picked up his fifth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT, and also picked up ten bonus points in Maryville, TN to move up to the third spot in the West Region standings. Lee has 746 points based on his best 16 finishes and his win ties him with Arnold for the series lead in top fives at 24. Lee also has 28 top ten finishes.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA is fourth in the West Region standings with 736 points based on his best 16 finishes in 23 starts. Barber has seven wins, 13 top fives, and 20 top tens driving the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt. Cliff Williams of Star, MS is fifth with 724 points based on his best 16 finishes in 18 starts after eight wins and 15 top fives driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is still a West Region title contender from the sixth spot, as he has 709 points after just 15 starts, and can earn full points in one more West Region event. Cooley has seven wins, 14 top fives, and 15 top tens driving the 78 Towing and Recovery Victory Circle.

Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is seventh in the West Region standings with 707 points based on his best 16 finishes in 24 starts after two wins, 19 top fives, and 22 top tens driving the Triple R Painting Rocket. Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS is eighth with 633 points based on his best 16 finishes in 22 starts after eight top fives, and 19 top tens driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star.

Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS is ninth with 594 points based on his best 16 finishes in 15 starts, and can earn full points in one more West Region event. Beckwith has six wins, ten top fives, and 12 top tens in the Hi-Grade Farm Supply Rocket.

Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 583 points based on his best 16 finishes in 20 starts. Ladner has three top fives and 17 top tens driving the D&J Development GRT.

Jamey Boland of Cuba, AL took his first-ever dirt late model win on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in the Boland Performance Trak-Star, and out ran Keeton, a two-time series champion to get the job done. In other Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action, Michael Santangelo of St. Rose, LA drove the Harahan Paint and Body Trak-Star to his second win of the season at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS.

The wins by Boland and Santangelo gave Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance in Cuba, AL two more NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge wins to bring their season total to 41 wins. The Trak-Star Race Car NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series victory streak is now up to 20 straight weeks, or every week of competition this season.

Victories by Lee and Goodwin gave the defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR two more wins to stay in the hunt for their third-straight title. GRT Race Cars is in second-place with a total of 34 wins.

Mastersbilt Race Cars of Crothersville, IN is in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge with 23 wins, followed by Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN with 15 wins, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN with eight wins, and C.J. Rayburn Race Cars of Whiteland, IN with one win.

Upcoming NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Double-Point events in the East Region will be held at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL this Saturday night, and at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night, August 29.

In the West Region, Magnolia Motor Speedway has rescheduled its Double-Point race for Sunday night, August 30. Hattiesburg Motorsports Park has scheduled a West Region Double-Point race for Friday night, September 4, and South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS will host a West Region Double-Point race for Saturday night, September 5.
