NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Round Up For June 28

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 13 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw “Dr. Dirt” Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS take over sole possession of second-place in the West Region point standings and close in on three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS.

Stokes took his seventh West Region win of the season on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the TJC Mortgage/Maximum Signs and Graphics Mastersbilt, and he also picked up 25 bonus points on Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring competition.

Keeton grabbed 50 bonus points over the weekend by competing in the two NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring events at Whynot Motorsports Park on Friday and Saturday nights. Keeton still leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 731 points based on four wins, 10 top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 15 starts driving the Boland Performance Trak Star.

Stokes now has 714 points in the West Region standings to close within 17 points of Keeton. Stokes has seven wins and 12 top fives, along with 125 bonus points in just 12 starts. Keeton is eligible to earn another 100 bonus points, while Stokes can still earn another 25 bonus points. Keeton can earn full points in one more race, and Stokes has four more races to earn full points.

Drivers’ Regional point totals are based on their top 16 point nights, plus up to 150 bonus points by competing in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring events at 25 points per event that are added on to their top 16 point nights. After a driver reaches the 16 race mark, they begin to net points by replacing their lowest point night among their top 16 with a higher event point total.

Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS earned 50 bonus points at WMP over the weekend and is third in the West Region standings with 689 points after three top fives and 12 top tens in 15 starts driving the Lawson Construction Rocket. Shay Knight of Ethelsville, AL is fourth with 596 points based on one win, eight top fives and 10 top tens in 11 starts in the Dunn’s Autos Mastersbilt.

Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 531 points after five wins, six top fives, and seven top tens in eight starts driving the Century Dedicated, Inc, Trak-Star. “J-Mac” has now earned the maximum amount of 150 bonus points.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS is sixth in the West Region standings with 509 points based on two wins and seven top fives in the Ware Construction Trak-Star. Chad McCool of Millport, AL is seventh with 487 points after one top five and six top tens in 10 starts driving the M&M Logging Mastersbilt.

Jason Michau of Kilmichael, MS is eighth with 485 points based on two top fives and seven top tens in 10 starts in the Michau Logging Warrior. Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS is ninth with 470 points based on three wins and seven top fives in nine starts driving the Medicaid Planning Specialists Trak-Star.

Randy Boyd of Marion, MS rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 466 points after seven top fives and nine top tens in nine starts driving the Coca-Cola of Meridian Trak-Star.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet West Region action over the weekend, Tyler Stevens of Searcy, AR drove to his third win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR driving the Searcy Auto Salvage Rocket.

Jeff Young of Shelby, MS drove the Camponovo Farms Larry Shaw to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Greenville Speedway will open Week 14 NeSmith Chevrolet West Region competition on Thursday night with a $1,000-to-win main event.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet East Region standings with 780 points, and the 17-year-old driver is the first driver to reach the 16-race mark this season. Edge’s point total is based on his best 16 point nights based on three wins, 16 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 18 starts driving the Edge’s Gas Mastersbilt.

Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL picked up his seventh win of the season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL driving the Bennett Logging RMRC. The “Rocketman” is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 646 points after seven wins, 10 top fives and 13 top tens in 14 starts.

“Flyin’” Ryan King of Anniston, AL is third in the East Region standings with 555 points based on three top fives and 10 top tens in 12 starts driving the True Bond Masonry TSR. Craig Scott of Newnan, GA grabbed his third win of the season on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA driving the Base Fuel GRT.

The “Flyin’ Eye” Scott is fourth in the East Region standings with 532 points after three wins, seven top fives and 11 top tens in 13 starts. Larry Harrod of Plains, GA is fifth after taking his second win of the season on Tuesday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in the Harrod Logging Scorpion. “The Big Tree” has 531 points with two wins and seven top fives in just eight starts, and has earned his 150 bonus points.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL is sixth in the East Region standings with 521 points based on three wins and nine top ten finishes in ten starts driving the United Bank GRT. Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL drove the Charco, Inc. TNT to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.

Huss is seventh in the East Region standings with 516 points after two wins, eight top fives and 10 top tens in ten starts. Paul Walters of Valley, AL is eighth with 514 points based on one win, four top fives and 10 top tens in 11 starts driving the PW Performance Warrior.

Adam Martin of Talladega, AL took his second win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL in the Martin Racing Barry Wright. The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion is currently ninth in the East Region standings with 479 points after two wins and ten top fives in ten starts.

Tim Staples of Pell City, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings with 470 points based on three wins, eight top fives and nine top tens in ten starts driving the Family Nissan Rocket.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action on Saturday night, Jason Welshan of Ten Mile, TN drove the Bill Bunch Motors Trak-Star to his first win of the season at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN. The victory was the first in the East Region for the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL.

Trak-Star Race Cars leads the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge with a total of 31 victories. Scott gave three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR its 23rd win of the season to remain in the second spot of the 2010 standings.

Stevens’ win gave Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV its 19th NeSmith Chevrolet WRS win of the season and they hold down the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge. Huss earned TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN its fourth NeSmith Chevrolet WRS win of the season and the fourth spot in the chassis points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fifth with two wins.

East Alabama Motor Speedway will open the Week 14 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition on Tuesday night.
