CARTERSVILLE, GA – Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS clinched the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings with his series-leading tenth win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star.

Arnold will earn $1,000 in point fund money at the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Awards Banquet on December 9 in Tampa, FL. The 18-year-old driver also won the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Championship at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, and is eligible to start the Race of Champions, and the Race of Regions at the Fall Nationals.

Seven drivers have clinched starting spots to be one of ten drivers that will represent the West Region in the Race of Regions at the 4th Annual NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Fall Nationals on November 27-28 at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS remained tied for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings. Cooley will more than likely opt to run the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, where he leads the National points.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA, and Cliff Williams of Star, MS will battle for the fifth spot in the West Region standings. Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS has clinched the seventh spot in the West Region. Five drivers still have a chance to pick up the eighth, ninth, and tenth spots in the West Region standings, and earn a seat in the Race of Regions.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is currently eighth, and like Cooley, will probably be in Alabama for the National Touring events where he is in the running for the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year honors. That will leave Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS, Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS, Evan Ellis of Plantsville, MS, and Randy Boyd of Marion, MS to battle for the top ten spots.

According to the West Region tracks’ web sites, just one more points paying event will be run this Saturday night, the last night of the 2009 WRS season. Drivers will have their choice of running at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS, or at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action on Saturday night, Corie Herberger of Mandeville, LA took his first win of the season at Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS driving the AQ Construction Larry Shaw. Saturday night races at Jackson Motor Speedway and at South Mississippi Speedway were rained out.

Both races scheduled on Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN and Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC were rained out, which concludes the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region season.

Several top ten East Region drivers can pick up ten bonus points that can move them up in the standings by competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL can clinch the third and final $500 points fund paying spot with an entry in the National event, but if he fails to enter the race, either Phenix City, AL drivers Montana Dudley or Terrance Nowell could take the spot with an entry. Just four points separate Martin, Dudley and Nowell for the third spot.

The ten drivers representing the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region in the Race of Regions will be East Region Champion Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL, East Region runner-up Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, Martin, Dudley, Nowell, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL, Jerry Goodwin of Wilsonville, AL, and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL has clinched the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Championship. Arnold’s Friday night win was the 49th of the season for Trak-Star Race Cars.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR will finish second with 42 wins. Mastersbilt Race Cars of Crothersville, IN will finish third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge with 23 wins.

Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth with 17 wins, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is fifth with eight wins, and C.J. Rayburn Race Cars of Whiteland, IN is sixth with one win.
