CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 18 of the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will have ten races on the schedule with six events in the West Region and four events in the East Region. There are still nine drivers in the West Region and 11 drivers in the East Region with ten or more starts that have Event Point Averages of 40 or higher based on their best 16 finishes.

The West Region will open NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 18 action on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, and Saturday night races will be held at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS and Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action for Week 18 will begin on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, with Saturday night events for Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Four NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks have scheduled double-point races in the coming weeks. Talladega Short Track will host a double-points race in the East Region on August 8, and Penton Raceway will have an East Region double-points race on August 21. Magnolia Motor Speedway will have a West Region double-points race on August 15, and Hattiesburg Motorsports Park will have a West Region double-points race on August 21.

There are still eight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing West Region drivers in the top ten of the point standings that have Event Point Averages of 40 or higher. One driver outside the top ten also has a high EPA, and could race his way into contention. A perfect EPA is 52.5.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion and current point leader Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS has the highest EPA in the West Region at 48.5 based on his best 16 finishes. Keeton has six wins, 18 top five finishes, and 19 top tens in 22 starts.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS has the second-highest EPA at 47.5 and is seventh in the West Region standings with seven wins, 13 top fives, and 14 top tens in 14 starts. Cooley still has two West Region races to earn full points. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is second in the West Region standings, and has the third highest EPA at 46.5 with eight wins, 21 top fives and 27 top tens in 28 starts.

Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA has the fourth-highest West Region EPA at 46, and is third in the West Region standings with seven wins, 13 top fives, and 20 top tens in 22 starts. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS has the fifth-highest West Region EPA at 45.7, and is fourth in the West Region standings with four wins, 22 top fives, and 26 top tens in 27 starts.

Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS is fifth in the West Region standings, and has the sixth-highest EPA at 43.9 with two wins, 17 top fives, and 20 top tens in 22 starts. Cliff Williams of Star, MS has the seventh-highest West Region EPA at 42.8 and is sixth in the West Region standings with eight wins, and 13 top fives in 16 starts.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is 14th in the West Region standings, but has the eighth-highest EPA at 42.3. Washington has six top fives and ten top tens in 12 starts, and still has four more West Region events to earn full points.

Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS is tenth in the West Region standings and has the ninth-highest EPA at 40.1 with six wins, ten top fives, and 11 top tens in 14 starts. Beckwith can also move up the points list, as he still has two more races to earn full points.

Of the 11 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region with ten or more starts that have EPAs of 40 or higher, six of them are in the top ten of the point standings, and five are outside the top ten. This should set up some interesting competition in the coming weeks.

NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region point leader Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL has the highest East Region EPA at 47.5 with seven wins, 15 top fives, and 17 top tens in 18 starts. Knowles’ closest EPA challenger comes from outside the top ten of the East Region point standings.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion Adam Martin of Talladega, AL is 13th in the East Region standings, but he is still very much a serious candidate to repeat as the East Region Champion. Martin has the second-highest East Region EPA at 45.3 with five wins, and ten top fives in just 12 starts.

With four more races to earn full points, look for Martin to climb up the East Region point standings in the coming weeks.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL is second in the East Region standings and has the third-highest East Region EPA at 45.2 with one win, 15 top fives and 16 top tens in 17 starts. Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL is sixth in the East Region standings and has the fourth-highest EPA at 45.1 with one win, and 13 top fives in 14 starts. Nowell has two more races to earn full points.

Larry Harrod of Plains, GA is tenth in the East Region standings, but is another driver yet to arrive at the 16 start mark looking to move up. Harrod has the fifth-highest East Region EPA at 44.8 with four wins, 11 top fives and 12 top tens in 13 starts. Harrod can earn full points in three more races.

Dana Eiland of Salem, AL is third in the East Region standings, and has the sixth-highest East Region EPA at 43 with four wins, 12 top fives, and 15 top tens in 17 starts. Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL has the seventh-highest East Region EPA at 42.9 and is 11th in the East Region standings with ten top five finishes in 13 starts.

Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL and Jerry Goodwin of Wilsonville, AL are tied for the eighth-highest East Region EPA at 42.8. Stephens is 12th in the East Region standings with four wins, 9 top fives and ten top tens in 13 starts, and can earn full points in three more races. Goodwin is 17th in the East Region standings with three wins, eight top fives and 11 top tens in 12 starts, and can earn full points in four more races.

Bobby Eiland of Phenix City, AL has the tenth-highest East Region EPA at 41.8 and is 18th in the East Region standings with nine top fives, and ten top tens in 11 starts. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL has been netting points with top five finishes in recent weeks, and has the 11th-highest East Region EPA at 40. Edge is fourth in the East Region standings with seven top fives, and 18 top tens in 24 starts.
