CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings have been adjusted to reflect the finishes at two tracks, one in the East Region and one in the West Region, during the ninth week of competition that were held pending technical inspections.

The engine in the Rick’s Rental Mastersbilt driven by Jacob Grizzle of Blairsville, GA was protested after he won the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series feature race on Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Technical Director Tim Sims traveled to North Carolina on Monday, took the engine apart, inspected it, and ruled it legal. The victory was the second of the weekend for Grizzle, who also won on Friday night at Sugar Creek Raceway in Blue Ridge, GA.

Sims then loaded up and headed to Mississippi to inspect the engine in the Barber’s Hardware Mastersbilt driven by Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA, who finished third on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS.

Track officials wanted Sims to take a look at the engine after it failed a compression check during the post-race inspection. On Tuesday, the engine was taken apart, inspected by Sims, and ruled legal.

HMP officials then released the results from Friday night, and NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point leader Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS could officially claim his sixth win of the season in the Reynolds Racing Trak-Star.

Arnold now has 562 points along with ten top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 13 starts. The 18-year-old point leader also had a two-win weekend, as Arnold also took the victory on Saturday night at South Mississippi Speedway in Gulfport, MS.

The late results and the adjustment of the point standings shuffled the top ten in both the East and West Regions.

The top four in the East Region remained the same. Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL leads the East Region points chase followed by Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, and Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL. Jason Deal of Copperhill, TN finished fourth at TCRT on Saturday night, and climbed up to the fifth spot in the East Region standings.

Josh Henry of Newport, TN is sixth and Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL is seventh. Jacob Anderson of Murphy, NC finished fifth on Saturday night at TCRT and moved up to the eighth spot in the East Region point standings. Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL is ninth, and Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region.

In the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings, Tracy Brown of Lumberton, MS finished sixth on Friday night at HMP and moved up to the second spot in the points chase, 63 points behind Arnold. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS finished fourth on Friday night at HMP to move up to the third spot in the West Region standings.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS dropped to the fourth spot. Fifth through ninth remained the same as Monday’s posted standings with Barber in the fifth spot, followed by Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS, Jimmy Howell of Laurel, MS, Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS, and Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS.

Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS finished tenth on Friday night at HMP, which moved him back up to the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point standings.

The complete revised NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings in both the East and West Regions is posted on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series web site at www.nesmithracing.com.
