CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2016 season opening Week 1 of the 27-week NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season will be contested at five different tracks in five different states over Friday night and Saturday night. Two tracks will be hosting their first-ever NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division races, expanding the weekly series to the East in Georgia, and to the West in Texas.
Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will open the 2016 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season with a race on Friday night. There will be four races on Saturday night, as Southern Raceway in Milton, FL returns for its third season of NeSmith Street Stock action, and a familiar track with a new name will also be in action on Saturday night.
Saturday night will mark a new era for the Lacombe, LA track formerly known as St. Tammany Raceway, now under new management and called LA 36 Speedway. The two tracks hosting their first-ever NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division events on Saturday night are Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA and Bronco Raceway Park in Cleveland, TX.
Drivers in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season that runs through September 25. The $5,000 National point fund will pay $2,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.
NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competitors have the option of using the economical Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine. Richie Stephens of Smith Station, AL is the defending NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division National Champion. Stephens set several new series records in 2015 driving the Rocketman Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a $3,495 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.
Stephens became the first driver in the three-year history of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division to record a perfect score of 700 points represented by 14 weekly victories. Stephens competed in a series-leading 33 races and won a series-record 20 races. He had a series-leading 27 top five finishes, and series-record tying 29 top ten finishes.
