Tampa, FL. Dec. 16, 2002…. Major improvements are complete and 2VHL Promotions, Inc., the new ownership group at the renamed East Bay Raceway Park, is set for the Tampa track’s 27th Annual Winternationals, which starts on January 23, 2003 and runs through February 15. Returning will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, 360 Sprints, Renegade and UDTRA Late Models and the All-Star 410 Sprints. One of East Bay’s trademark races, the Strawberry Dash, sponsored by Goodson Farms, will be part of each night’s program.

On Saturday, November 9, they completed the last of six remaining shows they inherited on the 2002 schedule when they bought the track, plus three shows they had added. Immediately after that last checkered flag, a labor intense effort of major track improvements was underway. These included removal of the infield jersey barriers, applying a new clay surface and extensive underground drainage work in turns #1 and #4 (which has already passed the test of a two-day heavy rainfall). Turn #1 it was widened and banked slightly to produce a more flowing motion when drivers negotiate that part of the 1/3 mile track.

Pictures circulated at Indy’s recent PRI show and posted on the track’s new website www.eastbayracewaypark.com, show the improvements and brought many favorable comments from drivers, owners and fans.

A challenging go-kart track with a banked #3 turn leading into a
hairpin #4 turn has been cut into the infield. Both tracks share the same front straightaway.

Exiting the track off #1 turn, the drivers will turn left under the new VIP Tower into the new tech shed/scale area which has been designed to accommodate multiple cars.

Last year’s Winternationals had 338 race teams from 30 states kicking off their racing season at East Bay. For their comfort and convenience, as well as the fans that follow them, a new Hall of Fame Café will specialize in take-out or sit-down spaghetti dinners.

The FREE barbecues are at noon on January 24, 31 and February 7 and 14. Camping sites are available for a nominal fee for each of the five events.

Advance tickets may be ordered by calling East Bay Raceway Park, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM and Wednesdays until 8:00PM, toll-free at 1-877-457-5611. East Bay now accepts Master Card, Visa, American Express and Discover. The track is located five miles south of I-4 on Rt. 41, then left on Old Rt. 41 or take Gibsonton Exit 250 on I-75.

Thanks, Jean Lynch for East Bay Raceway Park
