What's everyone think of these new cars by Yamaha with a 998 cc 4 cylinder engine in them

"It is designed to be a low maintenance, low cost-of-operation turnkey production racer with the potential for national retail distribution, financing and parts support that could bring a new level of accessibility to fans and would-be racers from outside of the current dirt track world."

Until the first promoter says "sure, you can use aftermarket ________. Oh yeah, and we'll "certify" engine rebuilders for a fee and you can get your engines rebuilt........"

Then its just a money chasing money and everyone else getting left behind and leaving the sport.

Again.

Why hasn't anyone tried to introduce a Polaris Razr circle track class to race those things? To me if you want entry level, start with something recreational that is abundant now in used condition to build on. Get some wide tires on those things, let people build whatever they want for an engine/drivetrain in it and go racing. Put some safety rules in, racing seats, head restraints, arm restraints, etc and let people have freedom to build what they want. I bet that would take off pretty fast,

people have $15,000+ wrapped up in razors easy. Seen one side by side with a $25,000 sticker price Thats still high dollar.

They sure do. But the point is, they already have them. It's only a small step to putting it on the track compared to buying it. And you know how it goes, once people have something like that, it's only natural to want to race somebody else who has one too. :)

Virtually everyone I know with a $15K+ side by side purchased it with a loan. Yeah they go out occasionally and drive it to whatever degree of extreme they know they can take it back home and wash it to ride another day, but in the end, they're still making payments, and aren't too interested in bending and breaking parts that'll require repairs to ride another day. You start taking it to a local track on the weekends and race against a field of other drivers, and you WILL bend and break parts. And then there's the insurance thing. Anybody out there got a theft and damage policy on their B mod? Nope. Anyone with a financed $20K side by side got a theft and damage policy?...you do if your smart.

The Yamaha cars are just an attempt at a money grab. The initial cost rules out any chance this becomes a class at local tracks. They might develop a pro class for them like the stadium trucks where retired MX and extreme sport athletes square up in them for specified short track events on a national tour with corporate sponsors behind it,...maybe. But at $20K a pop to get the car, and import pricing on a single source parts program, who wants to step out of a comparable A mod or B mod to sign up for that, or even pass on a comparable A mod or B mod when they're looking to get started in dirt car racing? And where is the tradition? When do we ever get back to the heart of what Stock car racing set out to be, where "stock" cars are put into competition by men of greater competitive spirit to come out on top by their ability to drive better than the rest of the field on that day. I know the answer is never, but as someone that's seen most of the evolutionary changes in dirt circle track racing over the years, it's a long way from where it set out to be, and I get sad sometimes when I think about where it's going. Like now.
