New UMP Shock Rules

ALCOHOL

#1 Rule Bender
Well,,what is next? Now they are mandating certain shocks for some classes. Go to UMP rules section and click in your class. There will be an amendment for the shocks to click on if it affects your class. Check it out,,then call UMP with your thoughts. Democracy man,,when is it going to stop.

It is really implemented to stop some of the $2,000 worth of shocks racers are putting on their cars!

A lot of people complain of drivers running traction control and tire prep that is getting them beat. Those may be a factor, but shock technology is what's winning the majority of the races out there!

Jimmy,,I have to disagree with you one this one. I build and sell street stocks. We can not run the cannister shocks and adjustable shocks on these cars. They are illegal already. I spent over 6000.00 this past winter stocking Integra brand shocks for these cars,,now they are illegal. You wouldn't like it if you spent 6000.00 on a camera and Kevin told you that you couldn't use it at Tri City,,see my point.

I'm really referring to the Pro Late Model division in my above post.

But Street Stocks should be limited on the shocks they can run as well. They have tried claim rules on shocks, but no one will use it. They have to do something because that is one area getting out of hand.

Sorry Jimmy,,I misunderstood your post,,,But street stocks is easy,,,,no adjustable, cannister and must be steel bodied,,,,,SIMPLE

Why not Afco ?

Why would they not allow Afco gas non adj. shocks in Pro late model. We ran them for years on the modified now they say sell or throw away and start over with another brand......Notice they did'nt touch the Modified shock rule, Bob Pierce must have had input there. He is a big Afco guy. I like them becuase we know them and have had no concerns thru the years. Just my thoughts. Jcup

Thats a bunch of crap. Rayburn puts konis on all his cars. what am i suposed to do with the 8 shocks that i have now? i guess I will get $ 50.00 a pc and then have to go and buy new ones. NOT!!! alot of guys are treating tires and have been since the begining of the year and ump has done nothing about it. I thought this was suposed to be a low budget series and now they want me to spend $ 1200.00 on new shocks. i had bilstien on my car and did not like them so I called the car builder ( Rayburn ) he said konis and car worked alot better. The only thing a schock rule is going to do is cost the guys with money more to have 20 different shocks to choose from. I wonder if a car builder would give ump some money they could make a rule that you have to run that car to be legal. Guess i will be runing with the suppers with my pro late model and my Koni's cause I can't aford to buy new shocks and what ever they come up with that makes them money and cost me.

Jimmy is it my understanding that allied will adopt this rule?cause I hope not they will lose alot of drivers. If so how can they delegate a brand of shock isn't that like somewhat unfair to afco or qa1

yeah, i got an email about this and pretty much ignored it, because pretty much every sportsman car i have ever seen would have illegal shocks on it, and i dont see that happening

Will this be another one of those rules where people will be complaining that cheating is going on? Like what you see on the car isn't what's really on the car? Who will try to make their own stickers?

Seems like a waste of time to me. Like Jimmy said, every sportsman car runs these "illegal" shocks. I have probably 10 extra shocks along with the 4 on the car and they are all going to be illegal even though they cost the same or less than the shocks they want us to change to.

Kind of dumb to make shocks that have been legal for years illegal and make everyone buys new shocks. That doesn't save anyone money. Sounds like a government ran program....pointless.

Also, if sportsmans are track rules then isn't the shock rule up to the track?

UMP needs to rethink this one before they send any more emails out.

im with jimmy i dont see this working out. theres way too many people with the "unapproved" shocks. and from what i understand, if you have one of the approved shocks now you still have to send it off to UMP or take it to one of the events listed for it to be stamped with the sticker?

Dave, even the classes that still run track rules, ump can instill certain rules. Like the tire rule was supposed to all be the same never was enforced.

Kinda like the modified lower control arms,,,,there is a lot of them out there with out UMP stickers!

You can't even run a AK Bilstein on a sportsman and a SG Bilstein could only be used on the front and their not really heavy enough for a 3200 car. An SG won't work on the rear of a sportsman as the max stoke available is only 8". DUMB DUMB DUMB thats as nice as I can say it. You should allow the SZ/SL Bilsteins and you should allow any brand steel body nonajustable shock for sportsman. I sure hope they change this. Someone didn't do their research when they came up with these rules.
