MAQUOKETA, Iowa (August 11) – The focus was driving to the front.

Andy Nezworski put all the national implications in the back of his mind Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway. He slid by Jeremiah Hurst and then Terry Neal to win the 25-lap Andover Meat IMCA Late Model feature.

“We’re pretty much out of the national thing,” Nezworski said in victory lane. “We’re a ways back in the points and you have to win a track championship, which we won’t. So we just come out to win races. We’ve had some bad luck recently so this really feels good.”

Neal took the top spot from Marty Scheckel early before Hurst passed following a restart about halfway through. Nezworski then made his charge to the front for his third victory on the 3/8-mile, high-banked dirt oval.

Matt Ryan passed Hurst late for second. Neal and Doug Nigh rounded out the top five.

IMCA national point leader Ryan started eighth, but spun early to cause a caution. He restarted at the rear and maneuvered back up to that runner up finish. Hurst runs second in the national standings.

“It’s great to run with Jeremiah and Matt. You don’t have to worry because we always race clean. The track was great and just able to get that bite to get around Jeremiah.”

The Buffalo ace sits fourth in the nation.

Bryce Garnhart used the high groove to get to the front and then to stay there en route to the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified 20-lap feature win. He sped by Ray Cox, Jr. with seven circuits left for his fifth Maquoketa win.

The victory, combined with Tyler Madigan’s eighth place vaults Garnhart back to the track points lead with two races left.

Cox, Matt Werner, Brock Bauman and Travis Denning followed.

Tyler Soppe sped to the B&D Pit Stop IMCA SportMod 15-lap checkers after starting eighth. He held off point leader Gage Neal, Joe Grant, Brandon Setser and T.J. Fortmann.

Timmy Current raced to his fourth straight Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Car 15-lap win. After a handful of restarts he was able to lengthen the advantage each time over a charging Greg Gill, point leader Donnie Louck, Jimmy Comins and Tim Bader.

Daniel Wauters passed Roger Winkers on lap five and held off point leader Randy Byerly for his seventh IMCA Hobby Stock feature victory. Shane Oberbreckling, Dakota Simonsen and Winkers followed in the 12-lapper.

Brett Marshall won his seventh Obie’s Bar and Restaurant/B&C Liquors 4 Cylinder 12-lap main event, fighting through traffic to get to the top spot. Justin Hempstead, Dan Mohr, Tyler Shady and Dillon Embree were next.

Tim Sibley led most of the feature before developing an issue in the left front and fell to ninth at the checkers. Shady brought out an early caution and raced from the tail to fifth.

Another great total of 80 race teams jammed the pits and the final checkered flag fell just after 9:30 p.m.

Action continues this Saturday Aug. 18 with Back to School Night and racing in all regular classes – Andover Meat IMCA Late Models, QCJeeps.com IMCA Modifieds, B&D Pit Stop IMCA SportMods, Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Obie’s Bar and Restaurant/B&D Liquors 4 Cylinders.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are 6:15 with racing to follow.
