No Sportsmen at Highland Speedway next year

what is decent plus thats a homegrown class they willbe there every week unlike some other classes
Hound I would consider a decent car count to be close to or more than a full feature field. When lets say 12 cars show up the payout is top heavy and bottom light. This makes the cost per car paid out higher and the pit gate receipts for the class lower. I don’t have a bone to pick with the sportsman. I just think that’s why the class was dropped. You raise a good point about sportsman being more likely to be local and have track loyalty. If it’s any consolation to you, I don’t think the crates are far behind. If their ranks don’t improve they should probably be on the chopping block next. I don’t want to see anybody’s class eliminated, but the big picture dictates a track has to be financially viable or it will close.

Why can't they just keep the sportsman class and make the crates run with the super late models, if they don't make the show then they just need to pick up the pace. Now the only tracks that run sportsman cars every week is Belleville and Pevely. JMO

I gotta agree with Hip on this one.
I liked it when the sportsman were cars that were given a roll cage, stock bodies, and if you drove a chevy, you had a chevy rearend.
Todays bombers (sorry street stocks) are more advanced then the old sportsmans.
I think the sportsman class needs to be brought back to the old days. I think it's advanced itself way to much. I personally think that the motor issue is minor compared to everything else.
My favorite sportsman memories are when guys like Alvin Noll, Johnny Pate, Kurt Richter, Mark Oller, Leon Rakers and others raced. In my opinion todays sportsman are just Modifieds with bumbers, and a small few other things.

Have a good day

Adam, those guys were all in Street Stocks... Sportsman have always been a step above that. The current sportsman style started around 1995 and haven't changed much since then.

Funny if you look at the results except for championship night where they locked in positions. The last 5 weeks of the season the Sportsman out numbered the crates!!!!
The big problem were the big motors! Should have been gone last year!
Seems that after all the crap, the class started a nice come back while the crates dropped off!

Here is why.

Why can't they just keep the sportsman class and make the crates run with the super late models, if they don't make the show then they just need to pick up the pace. Now the only tracks that run sportsman cars every week is Belleville and Pevely.

This is why. If you take a tight track like Belleville or Highland, put crates with Super Lates, and then get behind behind two crates running the same speed, whatch' gonna do as a driver? Somebody is gonna' get punted! And that is usually not good!

You have a good point on that one, but I guess if people have to drive like that then they have no other choice but to get booted out of the way!! The only reason I am going against this is because you can take a crate late model and run it anywhere around here, there are only a few tracks around that run sportsman cars every weekend.
