not racing related but everybody needs to read this, it may affect you more than you know

what is congress supposed to do loan them 25 billion to prop them up for three months?then what?

How do I get on the "Bail me out program"? I am not a billion dollar company that spent my money stupid, Just some little guy that spent my money stupid. Bail me out too please.

IMO the government is the reason for the falling of the auto industry ....all the Jap cars coming in the usa are tax free as in the japs pay no taxes on the auto entering into the usa...who pays the taxes...the end user who buys that jap car... it should be the other way around, tax the hell out of them and we pay no taxes if they want to sell in the usa!!!!!!!!

Maybe the "big 3" could send their corporate jets to pick up all these letters! Let them go Chapter 11 and restructure and fire every one of those idiot CEO's!

Instead of giving the big three money they should make upper management and middle management take pay cuts along with the 20 million a year CEO. Then buy 25 billion dollars worth of vehicles and give them to people that can't afford a new car. Just an idea?
Same with the banks. Buy the loans then finance them so the people can afford to stay in their home.

Maybe the goverment should just give people who are wanting to buy a new car 10 or even 20 thousand dollars to spend towards a new car. But make it to where they have to buy from one of the "big three". That way it helps out people who want a new car along with each of the "big three". The big three would still be getting there bail out money basically but it would be helping out the economy as well.

jmo

I think it's a shame how many dip****s are buying imports now days. I know i'll take some chit for this but its how i feel, and for those of you that say "those cars are actually made in america" (imports), how many people do you know that works at a toyota/honda factory? I"m sure that the 18 thousand AMERICAN auto workers that have been laid off, bought out or fired in the last 2 years would disagree. jmo

now thats funny,I have been to a number of auto assembly plants and about all you see is american workers, gm ford honda toyota ect ect ect. check a lot of things between the big 3 and the rest such as labor costs benefits expenses ,I bet there are a lot of differences why some are hurting worse than others.they got themselves in a bind so all i can say is get yourself out without my tax dollars.jmo

JMO I don't understand why We(taxpayers) should keep bailing out companies that are underperforming. The American system was put in place for competition. You fail at competing, you don't make money, you close your doors. Why should it be different for some and not for others? Most of us labor for companies who wouldn't have a chance to get bailed out. Of course, we would be the little guys who don't matter.

You know, it's funny. People on here say "Look at the people who buy foreign cars. It's their fault, because they don't buy American".

However, did you ever think to consider that it's the American car makers fault? People bought (and buy) foreign when they realized that they can get just as good, if not better, car, usually cheaper than what the big three were offering. Then, when gas prices started skyrocketing, the big three ignored it, and continued to offer their gas guzzlers. Then, when they realized that no one was buying their trucks and SUVs, and people were going to more economical cars, and foreign cars, it was too late to stop the damage. All the big three can hope to do now is avert disaster, which is even more factory closings, layoffs and bankruptcy. It's easy to cast blame on others, and direct the attention to something else, instead of focusing on the real issue, which is the American auto industry's snobbish attitude that people would continue on the same course, no matter what.

Heck, they are now asking for 34 billion instead of the 25 first mentioned. Where's it gonna stop? One of the big wigs from GM was on the Today Show and said bankruptcy is not an option. Fire his ***** and hire some people with common sense and will get the job done!!!

I believe American cars aren't made to last forever like some of the foreign stuff. They're made to keep people working. By not lasting forever they keep people in the automotive industry working (mechanics, assembly workers, sales, etc.) and thus keep the economy going.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of this bail out. First of all it is a loan. I can't imagin how bad it will be if the big 3 shut down. We will lose about three million more jobs as a result. Our country can't afford any more job losses. The only reason they are hurting in the first place was due to the slow down in the econamy.
