Open Motor vs Crate

Depends on what iteration of "crate" engine you are talking about. There are crate "crate" engines, and then there are the "crate" engines that have so much modification, alteration and improvement to them they are "crate" in name only.

The one thing that crate engines in racing have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt is that crate engines can get really expensive, really fast if you want the best "crate engine" money can buy.

If someone is cheating the "CRATE" up then that's the track and the racers fault for not claiming it...and keeping them honest.... because if they wont sell there is clearly a reason ...

Crates are an ok "option". They should NOT be mandatory. They will never be teched correctly. Also, anytime everyone has the same engine, the cost of everything else goes way up.

I spent 2 years rebuilding crate engines at Mittler Brothers, and i can tell you,if i had 50 phone calls a month about engine work,99% of them were people wanting them cheated! When you told them you couldnt cheat them, you never heard from them again!

Reason i asked is a reputable engine builder said hed be happy to build me a nice 355-360...but said the way things are going if you want to win crate is the way to go....so idk..

they should make a rule you cheat with the crate or not the crate you have to move up a class

Guess all the people that say a crate can't run with the open motors are really blinded by their lack experience and knowledge!

Crate engines are a 100% bull crap scam and if you can't see that they you're the one who's blinded by your lack of experience and knowledge.

The only scam about these engines is the builders that are doing things they ain't supposed to be doing! Seen first hand a builder cheat one up and seal it because the owner was a dedicated customer from the beginning! Money talks when your a star driver and rep a engine builder that's Prominent in the area

So you don't think it's a scam to write the rules in such a way that the racer is forced to use an engine that's manufactured in Mexico by a large corporation instead of one that's either home built or built by a small business/engine builder? Do you really think that those people will continue to support racing when all of their business has now been outsource to Mexico? Total scam. Not to mention an engine that the tracks have zero ability to police.
