Lee Fleetwood was a regular Late Model competitor at Brownstown Speedway for many years. He won seven Late Model features during his career at Brownstown and won the Sportsmanship Award at the track in 1992. Lee began his racing career in the mid 70's racing a Ford Mustang in the Hobby Stock Division at tracks such as Brownstown, Paragon and Bloomington. He moved to Late Models in the early 80's competing a couple of years in the Late Model Division before going to Limited Late Models in 1983. In 1984 he made the switch back to Super Late Models where he raced until his untimely death on May 3, 1995. He was inducted into the Brownstown Speedway "Hall of Fame” in 1995. Lee was in the prime of his life and racing career at age 44 when on Sunday, April 30 he suffered a dehabilitating stroke which he passed away from three days later. In his final race on Saturday Night, April 29, 1995 at Brownstown Speedway he was scheduled to start on the outside front row of the Late Model Feature when it was rained out. There was to have been double features the next week. Brownstown Speedway has honored the memory of Lee Fleetwood with the "Lee Fleetwood Memorial Race" each year since 1999. Lee was not only a very good race car driver but an even better person off of the race track.
