LEXINGTON, KY -- After last weekend's O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series event at the Scenic Raceway was rained out, Kentucky's premier dirt Late Model touring series will head back to the Volunteer State this Friday, July 22nd, for the 30-lap, $3,000 to win race.
Friday night's make-up race at Oneida, TN's Scenic Raceway will feature a complete program for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts with Racing Optics Time Trials, VP Fuels Makin' Power Heats, B-Mains, and a 30-lap A-Main paying $3,000 to win. 2003 BoB Champion Mike Marlar, of Winfield, TN, won in the series' only previous visit to the Scenic Raceway.
"We're certainly excited about having the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series here on Friday," said Scenic Raceway owner John King. "They have great drivers, an extremely attractive payout, and their format provides great side-by-side racing for the fans."
Before the rains came and washed out the event last Saturday, over 30 O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Late Models were in the pits with more lined up outside the gates. When asked about the anticipated car count for this event, King was enthusiastic. "I think the fans will be in for a treat. Our phone has been ringing nonstop with inquiries from 5 or 6 different states about this Friday's race."
General Admission for this event is just $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 6-11, with kids age 5 and younger free. Tier parking is just $20 while a pit pass for this race is just $30. Gates are slated to open at 4pm with Hot Laps at 7pm and Racing Optics Time Trials to follow. The 30-lap A-Main pays $3000 to win, $1500 for 2nd, $1000 for 3rd, $500 for 10th, and $300 for 20th. "With a guaranteed purse like the Battle of the Bluegrass Series has, we're excited about the unexpected drivers who might show up for this one," King stated.
Twelve races into the season, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts continues to flex its muscles with eleven different winners. Dunnville, KY's Whitney McQueary, the only two-time winner on the tour this year, leads the current series point standings ahead of Mike Jewell (Scottsburg, IN), Tim Tungate (Campbellsville, KY), Aaron Hatton (Mt. Sterling, KY), and Chris Combs (Isom, KY). To date, over 180 different drivers have competed with the nation's most top regional series in 2005.
Scenic Raceway is 1/2-mile clay oval with corners banked 24 degrees and seating for 4,500.
