ALLEN, TX (September 17) – The Outdoor Channel has reached an agreement with the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series to televise its fire-breathing, mudslinging sprint car races for the next three years, series President Ted Johnson and Senior VP of Programming Wade Sherman announced Wednesday.

The agreement states The Outdoor Channel will produce and telecast a minimum of 27 events in 2004 on a tape-delayed basis. The one-hour telecasts will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern Time between April and September as part of The Outdoor Channel’s "Wednesday Night Horsepower" time slot. Most telecasts air within 14 days of each race. Additional replays will be presented Saturdays at 8 a.m. Eastern Time and Thursdays at 10 p.m. Pacific Time.

"The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series brand is highly recognizable among American race fans," Sherman said. "We are confident this series will be tremendously popular with our audience and is likely to establish itself quickly as our flagship motorsports property."

"We’re extremely pleased to reach this agreement with The Outdoor Channel," Johnson said. "Having 27 of our events on this thriving cable network will give us tremendous exposure as our fan base continues to grow. We’re back where we need to be – on television. This contract will put us in front of the American public for three years, and we expect this to continue as we grow with The Outdoor Channel."

The World of Outlaws is the world’s premier sprint car racing series, sanctioning 72 events over 100 dates at 50 tracks in 27 states and offering more than $10 million in purses, contingencies and point fund awards during its 25th Anniversary Season.

Based in Temecula, CA, The Outdoor Channel is a national cable network dedicated to providing the best in traditional outdoor programming to America’s sixty million anglers and hunters. The Outdoor Channel is available to nearly sixty million homes in the U.S. through a combination of cable networks and satellite providers. Awesome!!! Finally, somebody willing to air the WoO. I remember when you could actually watch them LIVE.

Glad to hear that WoO will be back on TV. Too bad the shows will only be an hour long, but it is better than nothing.
