Benton, Mo; Gneral Manager Doug Friese of the Auto Tire and Parts Racepark announced today his corporation has entered into a lease agreement with Jerry Wolsey Racing Promotions, LLC regarding the oval track located inside of the 95 acre motorsports park. Jerry Wolsey, General Manager of Semo Motor Speedway located near Sikeston and his immdeiate family will be promoting motorsport events at the racepark starting in 2003. Jerry Wolsey is no stranger to the racing community he has been involved in auto racing most of his life as a driver, track official, and since 1991 has been in charge of safety and security at ATPR.
"We feel Jerry and his family will do very well both in promoting and operating the 3/8 mile track and we are very proud to have them as part of our team", Friese said. The track will continue to run weekly shows on saturday nights along with some special summer events on Wednesday nights. Classes that run at ATPR on weekly basis during the racing season is Sprints, Pure Street Stock, Cruisers, and Modifieds. "I'm very excited about ATPR it is one of the nicest facilities in the region and our family will work very hard in making this one of the premier dirt tracks in southeast missouri and southern illinois", Wolsey said. With a new promoter also comes some changes at ATPR for the 2003 season, the new management is in the process of filing necessary paperwork for the track to become a UMP Sanctioned Track regarding the Modified class.
"I want to make it affordable and economical for a family to come out to the racepark on a saturday night during the summer and enjoy themselves and witness some of the finest dirt track racing in the area. A solid fan base is also very important in this industry, and also we will be making every effort to get the show over at a decent hour", the new promoter said.
