PADUCAH, KY (January 6, 2006) - Paducah International Raceway is pleased to announce our 2006 racing schedule. PIR made national headlines when NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Ken Schrader purchased the McCracken County track along with Midwestern promoter Bob Sargent in November 2005. As previously announced, PIR will welcome racers and fans every Friday night for seven months with the “Season Opener” slotted for Friday, March 24th, 2006. The 3/8th-mile, high-banked oval will host 31 events featuring U.M.P. Super Late Models, U.M.P. Modifieds, C.A.R.S. Crate Late Models and Pure Stocks from March through September. Mini Sprints and the exciting 4-Cylinder Warriors will also compete on a limited race schedule.
Save the date for Friday, April 14th, as fan favorites and new track owners Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Ken Schrader will make one of their scheduled appearances at PIR! Schrader, a NASCAR veteran and true racer’s racer, will be mixing it up behind the wheel of his U.M.P. Super Late Model against the PIR regulars. Missouri-native and NASCAR dynamo Kenny Wallace will also join the excitement as he squares off against the open-wheel competition in his #36 St. Louis Cardinals U.M.P. Modified.
Paducah International Raceway will host several high-velocity, racertainment specials in all divisions throughout the 2006 racing season. Two of the special events planned for the 700+ horsepower U.M.P. Super Late Models will take place in the month of June. On Friday, June 2nd, the “4th Annual Tri-Track Challenge” will kick off at PIR for a $10,000-to-win main event and the best national, regional and local talent will once again converge on the PIR high banks when a $6,000 check is up for grabs when the “U.M.P. Summer Nationals” tour makes its annual stop on Thursday, June 29th. The C.A.R.S. Crate Late Model teams will have two opportunities to showcase their throttle-stomping potential with two special events slotted for May 26th and June 30th. PIR will also unleash the open-wheel U.M.P. Modifieds for two specials including a $2,000 payday for the winner on Friday, April 7th, and a mid-summer sizzler with a main event win worth $1,000 on Friday, July 21st. Pure Stock teams will also have an opportunity to duke it out for a $300 payday on Friday, May 12th.
Paducah International Raceway is proud to announce the return of the historic “WORLD 50” which will also pay tribute to two racing legends – Wayne Coakley and Bob Memmer. Coakley, a name synonymous with dirt racing in the region, was tragically killed in an auto racing accident upon returning from a race and Bob Memmer was the founding father of the United Midwestern Promoters sanctioning organization and “friend of the little guy” who passed away in July 2004. The “Wayne Coakley/Bob Memmer Memorial World 50” will take center stage on Friday, August 11th, 2006. Past winners of the event include prominent names such as Kevin Claycomb, Randy Sellars, Terry English, Billy Drake, Jerry Inman, Tom Helfrich, Larry Moore and Jeff Purvis.
The touring Northern All Star Late Model Series (NALMS), which is also co-owned by PIR’s duo of Schrader and Sargent, will make an appearance on Friday, September 1st. The management and staff of PIR are looking forward to an action-packed 2006 season with numerous special events for fans and race teams alike. An additional night of importance includes the Mid-Season Championships/“Armed Forces Night” on Friday, May 26th, as PIR pays tribute to all active-duty personnel including those from nearby Fort Campbell, KY, and veterans who previously served to keep our great nation safe and free.
