Paducah International Raceway bringing back the past Legends of PIR this Friday Night

(Paducah, KY) Paducah International Raceway will go back in time with its’ racing program this Friday, June 15th as they honor the Paducah International Raceway Legends.

The Legends of Paducah International Raceway presented by Cache River Chevrolet will bring drivers, pit-crew members, engine builders and track officials back to PIR. For many of these Legends, it will be the first trip back to the high-banked 3/8th mile oval since the glory days of their racing careers.

During an off-season poll, fans were asked who their favorite PIR drivers and Legends were. The fans response was overwhelming and the Legends of Paducah International Raceway was put on the schedule. Driver names, some who are still currently driving like “Snake Hobbs’ were brought up. Other names included Larry Sanderson who went on to become the track announcer for several years after his driving career came to an end. Larry Bradford, Melvin Woodford, Larry Walston, Jerry English, Gary Keeling, and Tom Helfrich, and Phil Gregory who both ended up with USA World 50 wins were names that the fans wanted to pay tribute too along with many others.

Many of them are coming back to Paducah International Raceway Friday night so that the fans can catch up in a very up close and personal way including a special autograph session and pre-race get together under the Withers Broadcasting Pavilion. Fans are encouraged to bring with some of their favorite memorabilia to share with the drivers and fans as we go back in time to what provided to be the very time that promoted PIR as one of the fastest and most recognized dirt tracks any where in the country. In addition to the Legends returning to PIR, some of who will be competing again against each other in Crate Late Models, Vintage cars will race on the 3/8th mile track. These are the racecars you grew up with including the 3 window coupes, super modifieds, and straight-8 fords. Tony Stewart’s #20 Home Depot Show Car will also be making 2 appearances in Paducah on Friday. The first appearance will be from 1–4 pm at the Farmers Market parking lot in downtown Paducah. Co- sponsored by PIR, The Paducah Sun and 106.7 WZZL, the NASCAR racecar will be on display for fans to look at and have pictures taken with. The one of kind Autographed Harley-Davidson will also be on display. The Harley- Davidson Street Bob is autographed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Ken Schrader and is the only one in the world like it. The bike is being raffled off with the profits to go to charity. Fans will also have the opportunity to win a prize package that includes use of the Paducah Sun Suite at PIR for NASCAR Night II, Tickets for a meet and greet with NASCAR drivers participating in NASCAR Night II and food for the Suite provided by award winning Bar-b-que master “the Bear”.

Admission price will remain the same at $10 for adults and children 12 and under are FREE. The pit gates open at 4pm with the grandstands at 5pm. The autograph and meet and greet session will take place from 6-6:30pm with racing action at 7:30pm.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt Jr, Ken Schrader and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of Co-Owners as a partner in September of 2006. The 3/8th mile high banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights, The USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. Paducah International Raceway races every Friday night and is located off Interstate-24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky.
