PIR would like to congratulate Kevin Cole on his 2nd UMP Late Model Championship at the venerable 3/8 mile speedway. Kevin started the season strong and built up a good point lead early. Some late season struggles did not keep him from winning the title over runner up Jeff Walston.
In 2008 Todd Miller used consistency to win the UMP Modified title without scoring a feature victory. However he changed that in 2009. Todd scored 4 feature victories on the way to winning his 2nd consecutive UMP Modified track championship at Paducah. Finishing 2nd to Miller in the title hunt was Justin Houston.
Tait Davenport has been the man to beat in the UMP Pro Late Model class for 2 years at PIR. In 2008 along with winning the track title he also captured the UMP National Title.
In 2009 he once again won the track title and finished 2nd in the national chase just a few points short. Cary King ended the season a very close 2nd in the points and looks to challenge Davenport for next years championship.
What can be said about a 13 year old young man winning 11 features in route to his very first track championship. Well J R Mason did just that on his way to capturing the UMP Street Stock Championship at Paducah International Raceway. J R and Stacy Tretter had a very hard fought battle for the crown until late in the season when Mason pulled off a string of wins to secure the title over Tretter.
In the UMP 4 Cylinder Warrior division the battle went down to the very last race of the season. Jake Mayo had a slim lead over Hunter Lyles going into the last feature. Mayo managed to finish well enough to secure the title with Lyles finishing a career best 2nd in the points.
We had some great racing this year and really are looking forward to the 2010 season.
