Although the weather has been chili, the atmosphere around the opening night by fans, competitors and drivers is hot. Practice night this past Friday night just fueled the flame for the guys to get started with the 2006 season at PIR. With PIR being one of only a handful tracks open this early in the year, drivers from throughout the Midwest will be traveling to PIR looking for Valuable UMP Local, State and National Championship points, but also to get their name in the record books as the first driver in their respective class to win at PIR under the new ownership.

Fresh paint along with list of improvements will greet race fans as the new ownership trio of NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ken Schrader and longtime Midwest Promoter Bob Sargent have rolled back the prices to $10 for Adults with Kids 12 and under FREE. “We wanted to make going to the races affordable so the whole family can enjoy the races. We look forward to providing a fun, family entertainment destination for all of our race fans” Sargent said.

Part of the entertainment for PIR along with the UMP Late Models, Modifieds and Street Stocks will be the new 1/5th mile track that will host the exciting 4 Cylinder Warriors. The Warriors will split time with the Winged Mini-Sprints. These open wheel machines powered by 600cc power plants proved to be lightning quick during their first laps at the track.

The gates open at 4 pm for competitors and 5pm for race fans on opening night March 24th. The racing action starts at 7:30pm. Dress warm and bring your appetite for speed as the 2006 season heats up at PIR.
