(Paducah, KY. 9/28/06) The sun was shining on Sunday September 24th and the torrential rain of the weekend that dumped over 14 inches on Paducah International Raceway looked to have passed. That is when the creek rose and the flood waters came over the back stretch wall filling the 3/8th mile high banks of PIR with over 9 feet of water thus causing damage and the subsequent cancellation of the Cache River Chevrolet Championship night presented by Cheers Bar and Grill scheduled for Friday September 29th, 2006.

The PIR track staff has been pumping water around the clock since the creek crested on Monday at noon. With all of the efforts an amazing five feet of water still remains in the infield at PIR. Rain overnight and during the day on Thursday has hampered the effort to be ready to race on Friday forcing the cancellation.

Track Championship points were to end on Friday September 29th, 2006. Due to the numerous rainouts during the season and the flooding of this past weekend, PIR track points will be extended to Friday October 13th, 2006. If for some unforeseen reason that the race on October 13th must be canceled the points will be frozen and the PIR 2006 track champions will be based on points as they stand at this time. Paducah International Raceway will also run on Friday October 20th, 2006 as the final race of the season. The original end of the season was scheduled for tomorrow night but was extended when PIR Co-Owner and NASCAR Star Ken Schrader visited Paducah last week and talked with sponsors about the overwhelming support of the community in the inaugural season at PIR.

NASCAR Stars Dale Earnhardt Jr, Ken Schrader and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the tri of Co-Owners as a partner in September of 2006. The 3/8th mile high banked oval will host several high profile events including three NASCAR Nights, The USA World 50, and the Tri-Track Challenge. Paducah International Raceway races every Friday night and is located of Interstate-24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky. For more information call the PIR hotline at 270-448-4PIR, the track at 270-898-SHOW (7469). Check out the PIR Website at www.paducahinternationalraceway.com or www.paducahracing.com.
