Paul Humphrey's hard hit at TCS

What I would like to know, is there a tire or something soft on that entrance or exit wall? Or is it a concrete corner?

Also, no matter what track you are at, the PA announcer will talk or yell until they are blue in the face telling these dare devils to move. But these people will not move away from the fence. Then they will lose a head and it won't be their fault.:mad:

not hard to get them away from the fence, stop the race until they move and if they don't understand that, remove them from the property. why were they there to start with? don"t they have a place for people in the pits.

gate

this may be a stupid question, but why not make a steel gate?, they have them at blacktop tracks where the cars go a lot faster.

- avoids this type of accident
- keeps cars from entering and leaving pits too fast
- controls outgoing cars from moving into race traffic
- safer for pit officials and daredevil spectators

I think that is a GREAT idea.I-55,highland,bellcaire,eldora,knoxville, just to name a few all have them.I think tri-city needs a gate or somen like that.it will be so much safer then hitting a concrete wall.

But anyway i hope paul is doing Fine.

Paul Humphrey

I went by Paul's house today, he seems to be doing ok, a little sore. Needless to say he is a little upset with the guy that hooked him and turned him into the opening. The chasis is pretty much destroyed. Looked at it today. Thanks to everyone that is concerned about how he is feeling.

what makes my comment stupid? please explain yourself. two cars in a weeks time had identical wrecks in a weeks time. lots of cars have been torn up in the same manner. is it going to take a fan or crew member to get hurt or worse to get something done?

I should not of used the word stupid, I apologize for that. However I think it is going a little overboard to suggest that the track is going to shut down based on two accidents. The wrecks were not identical, different parts of the speedway. The guys in the photo of the 09 accident were adults who chose to put themselves at risk. Someone obviously should tell them not to stand there, but there is also such a thing as personal responsibility. You mention alot of cars have been torn up in the same manner, what is the track to do mandate that there are to be no more accidents or you can't race there? I don't know what you want the track to do. Every track in this area has fans very close to the action, including the big track at gateway and when you buy a ticket or stand near a fence you have to understand there is risk. As far as parents not watching there children that is stupidity and you see it everywhere not just the races.

Not to sure how good you will see it, but look for a walk way ANYWHERE near this track:

NO WAY TO GET CLOSE:(the person in the white shirt is TRACK crew to make sure no one goes near the little gate)

OR HERE!!!

These pics are from the front stretch. On the back stretch there is a white line ran from one post to another post. If you cross that line you are directed to BACK OFF or get booted for the rest of the night!!!
Now, this is the back stretch where the cars exit where the white line is: (the one's behind the white fence are behind the pit stands away from the track-see the trailer...)

This is right out of turn 2. The ENTIRE track is like this all the way around..

SO... point being, there ARE safer ways to enjoy the races. It is their own fault if they get hit!!! I see pretty much all adaults standing there. They should know better then do it. Farmer City is the same way though. In 3 and 4 you see people standing right on the fence EVERY NIGHT. Now it has been a while since I was there and they may have changed this... but then it was a never ending issue... Tracks need to do more about it and that's that! If they don't then the adaults need to use their heads for something other then throw a beer down or take a crap out of.

And I totally agree with "WILDCHILDFAN" and "THEHITMAN" about the kids deal! i never ever let my kids wonder more then 2 feet away from me! There are to many child rapists out there for 1, for 2, kids are not ment to be treated like dogs and threw out in a yard to play!!! When parents start that crap they need to sit in time out their selves. Maybe a DCFS (childrens services) person needs to be there to see that crap!!! Pure stupidity if ya ask me to let your kids wonder around. I just love seein kids runnin up and down the pits and under grandstands. How would you ever know if your kid climbed up about 6-8 sections of railing and fell... busted their head open or worse....

"MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!!! Would the idiotic parents that let their kid bust the chit open put their beers down and report to the ignorance zone please!!! Thank you!!!!"

All I'm sayin...

sure them people put themselves at risk but the track needs to do everything possible to eliminate those risks. common sense tells me to stay out of an area like that. some people don't have the common sense to do the same. a simple gate would have kept that car from hitting that wall like it did. if ther is an unsafe condition drivers can and have loaded up untill the issue is fixed. just use 3k as a good example this past friday.

It's the drivers choice if they want to run there or not. THEY and they alone take the risk of hitting the wall. Hell for that matter, when a track gets rutted out, should they rush out and fix it during the race so someone dont roll over or break a nail???

Come on.... Would YOU load up and not go back till they fix it??? NO... IT IS A RISK YOU TAKE... Maybe Was-car should restrict the speeds donw to around 90 then... hittin the wall cause of a blown tire at 190+ is to much of a life threatning risk...

yes if you watch Walsh when he races the feature he actually uses the concrete wall on turn 1 and 2 to slide on as you will see his rear end fill with sparks. its good strategy.

I can say from experience that you can tell those guys to kep the kids and themselves away from the wall but they leave for that race and then come back. Stopping the race till they move would only make the rest of the fans mad and is not fair to the guys on the track.

The gate is a great idea but tri-city has been running without one how long? Anyone in the pits (which is where you would have to be to be by that gate) should know what kind of risk that is and knows what could happen.

I agree! You can fix a million prospects on every track but there will always be something. What about the wall on the inside of the front straight. Ive seen some rough ones there also. In auto racing there is going to be accidents, that is why a cage and all other safety equipment is there. I 55 has a gate on the back that zimmerle cleared and hit the chain link fence.
