Morgantown, KY-May 22- The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series made its first ever visit to Soggy Bottom Speedway in Morgantown, KY this past Saturday night and Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY came away victorious in the Lucas Oil Products A-Main feature event.

Russell Childress and Payne would bring the field to the green flag, with Childress taking an early lead, followed by Payne and defending UMP Modified national champion Ricky Arms. Childress would see his lead short lived as Arms would scoot past Payne for the runner-up and bring the pain to Childress and would take the top spot around lap 8. Arms would pull away from Childress to around a five car length lead, only to see his charge slowed for a multi-car accident in turn two involving four entries. Meanwhile, Jimmy Westerfield, who started 22nd as a track provisional, was on a mission to make it to the front and would be into the top ten as the field saw the halfway signal on lap 20. The leader would see his night go sour as Arms would clip the backstretch guardrail on lap 25, bringing out the final caution of the event. Payne, who had regained second earlier from Childress, would now be on the point and would lead the rest of the way and gain the $1,500 payday aboard his MaxTrax Race Cars sponsored #68 mount, which was shod with Hoosier Tires. Trailing the second generation young gun at the finish was Westerfield, who charged from the 22nd position. Childress would hang on for third, while Leonard Pierce and Kelly Warren completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Kevin Burt, John DeMoss, Ricky Arms, who had a flat tire when his contacted the guardrail and later returned, Mark Rowe, and Brandon Green. Thirty-five entries were on hand for the event with the Racing Optics Fast Time award going to Arms. The four Crown Spray Power heats were Arms, Payne, Childress, and Burt. The pair of O’Reilly Auto Parts B-Main were scored by John DeMoss and Shelby Miles. NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series provisionals went to Chris Riehle and Hank Bradley. Track provisionals went to Brandon Wilson and Jimmy Westerfield.
