PCRA will award UMP National Points for all events in 2011!

MSD sells a Soft Touch Rev Control for HEI that works well for the chip rule. We plan to install one on our new car for that very reason.

The big question is will this Soft Touch Rev Control for the HEI be allowed and if so how will it be checked/teched? I would love to try this rather than investing in the MSD box, Coil and then having to rewire the car.

You have to buy a rpm module with the soft touch system. How can they tech that when they hand everyone else a chip? Just wondering....am not bashing the system. But their website rules only mention msd systems and the chips. Who can i call to find out? Id sell the unit to 2 guys i know who are building crate cars and seems like the soft touch is a great system.

The "rpm module" is a chip so no need to buy one when the PCRA is going to supply them. The Soft Touch box is just a place to plug the chip in so that it can limit the rpms.

As for tech, I would think that would be the same as an MSD Ignition......plug in a 2500 rpm chip and rev up the engine....if it doesn't rev over 2500 its good.

Of course this is just my opinion....if you want to know anything for sure, I would call Mark Voigt at his shop 618-887-4706.

http://www.pcralatemodelseries.com/pcra-rules/PCRA-2011-RULE-BOOKRULE-BOOK.pdf Per their website. The MSD soft touch isnt listed as a module you can use and it requires a totally different chip versus the msd regular box. Its why im asking . You have to run a msd normal box and use their chip they give you. Not one you bring to the track for the soft touch module. I also contacted msd myself and was told about the chip differences. PCRA wont invest in different in different rev limiters for different ignition devices im afraid. Just trying to get people to not buy something they cant use. If they changed the rule....wasnt listed and wasnt told any different. Not tryin to buck tha system or be an ***...just did some research and thats what i found. I know people building 2 maybe 3 crates and i needed to know to let them know as well.

I can understand the need to keep everyone on a certain setup to keep things controlled. Its why i was checkin around and seen this thread. Good call on their part really.

Thanks for that information, I was told the chips were the same. Looks like I'll be calling Mark to find out before I do anything too.

I'm sure they'll get it worked out.

We ran the external rev control with our HEI on our 602 motor the past 3 years, i believe it was the soft touch rev control. It is the same chip as all the other MSD chips. They ALL use the same modules/chips. We had talked to Mark and he said it would be fine. There are MSD rev control boxes that have a dial the change the rev limiter, but they cannot be used. It must have a chip!!

I think having them issue the chips is a good idea, and that random checks in staging to make sure the correct chip is in is a great idea. It would be good to to take them out right after the feature in a set area so that nobody can go back to the pits to put the good one back in the car before the officials come by to collect them.
