(Warrensburg, MO) The summer rains have been a challenge at Central Missouri Speedway the last few weekends, but not enough to keep the championship battles from being contested on the high-banked clay oval in Warrensburg. This weekend marks the twelfth weekend of competition for the point's championship race in each division on Pepsi Race Night. The Saturday, July 18 races will highlight the 'mighty' modifieds, ULMA late models, b-modifieds, and street stocks. Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM with Grandstands admission beginning at 5, Driver's Meeting is held at 6:30, Hot Laps begin at 7:00 and racing gets underway at 7:30.

The modified features have been a real treat for local race fans with nine drivers taking the checkers into victory lane this season. Last weekend Concordia driver, Jason Thompson drove to his second feature win which keeps him just behind current point leader, Aaron Marrant. Marrant remains on top of the modified point’s race after his strong run from the tail of the field into a seventh place finish last Saturday. He has five top five finishes this year along with Jim Moody, Thompson, who is second in points and Dean Wille. Wille was in the fast lane last Saturday night crossing the line in fourth place after a starting spot in the 22nd position. Wille takes over the third spot in the championship for points with Tim Karrick and James McMillin rounding out the top-five.

The ULMA Late Models continue to turn out in strong numbers each week averaging 19 drivers a night at CMS this season. Last weekend first-time visitor and four-time Montgomery County Speedway champion, Shawn Rayfield raced his way to the checkers in his crate late model for his first feature becoming the eighth driver to win in this division. Warrensburg’s Jon Binning is the current point’s leader with Steve Clancy taking his fifth top-five finish last weekend after another smooth ride into fourth. Randy Ainsworth looked strong in the fifth spot last Saturday and is third overall in points. Robbie Test and A. L. Barbour are the remaining top-five drivers in the division. Test garnered his first ULMA feature win just two weeks ago.

The Street Stocks drivers continue to challenge Brian Johnson of Independence for the top spot in the points’ race. Johnson has five feature wins along with victory lane celebrations this season, but keep an eye on Michael Mullins who gained his first feature win last Saturday and is just 34 points behind in second. Mullins has been one of the most consistent drivers at CMS this year. Nic Bennett, Chad Eickleberry and John Ebert fill out the remaining spots in the top-five in the division. Eickleberry and Terry Schultz each had a feature win this season with Schultz’s well deserved victory during the Memorial Day Street Stock special.

The B-Modified class had been exciting this year with a mix of young and veteran drivers. The young guns seemed determined to take over victory lane with six drivers winning during the feature events. Current point’s leader and two-time feature winner, Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove is now just 18 points ahead of Bonner Spring's driver, Ethan Isaacs who has five top-five finishes with a feature win earlier this year. Chris Brockway of Warrensburg drove a smart race for his second feature win last weekend and is in third place in the point’s battle. Michael King and Brian Ziegler maintain the final top-five spots in the B-modified division although the last few weeks have been difficult for Ziegler with various mechanical problems along with his truck and car parts stolen from his home.

Fans and Drivers are reminded they can use their pit passes and admission tickets from the June 27 rain-out on any regular race night. CMS will soon announce some upcoming special discounted prices for various Missouri and Kansas counties in which residents of the counties will receive special admission pricing on future race nights.
