Sedalia, Missouri

After heading north from his hometown of Springfield , Missouri three weeks ago for a special event at Wheatland Raceway, well known, second generation driver Terry Phillips decided to stop by and try a run in Sedalia. He won. He won that 'King's' special too.

With the same thought in mind again, he decided to stop by on his way to Saturday night's O'Reilly Auto Parts MLRA/NCRA/Polydome WDRL 'Late Model Nationals' in Doniphan, Ia. And his hunch paid off again. But barely. After not doing well in his heat, Phillips started 13th in the 20 lap, W-K Chevrolet/ Buick Dirt Late Model feature. He was able to pull into fifth place with 5 laps to go. Fourth with 4 to go. Third with 3 laps to go and second coming down for the white flag. It was on the last turn of the final lap that he squeaked by race long leader Richard Foster to do it again and collect another 1200 smackers. Foster was a half-car back in second.

The wily 'silver fox' from Hallsville, Howard Hall, who holds more 3rd National Bank Modified feature victories than anyone on the historical half-mile, dirt oval, out-bested a stellar filed of competitors for his second win of the year.

Kevin 'kid' Coyne from Blue Springs kept his big string of recent "Todd and Associates Realty Limited Late Model wins going. It was his second win in as many Miller Lite Summer Shootout Series events. He's also scored five main event wins on Saturday nights at Central Missouri Speedway, where he also holds the championship points lead.

Blowing his 'major motor' in his David Malmo Ltd./ Malmo Mitsubishi Street Stocker in his first race night this year, Sedalia's Earl Sullins had to stand by a few weeks to get another engine created. This was a good one. Sullins pulled in his first win in the exciting class this season.

With the first three visits by the exciting O'Reilly Auto Parts Midwest Sprint Car Series machines, there were three different winners. Now, make that four. Coming out on top in the 20 lap run was Boonville's sprint-ace, Terry Hinck, the standout in a field of 24 quality racers.

Gilliam's Robert Littrell, Jr. had no trouble holding off David 'speed' Goodson to win his second consecutive 826race.com Hobby Stox main affair. And yes, that is the same David Goodson, now coined as the SSFS, Inc. president, promoter and now,… ahem, 'racer'.

This coming Friday night's top-drawer, 5-class show has been carded as the Yeager's Cycle Night at the Races.
