Pics of Will Krup's aftermath of crash @ Terre Haute. I've never seen this airflow going to carb

I'm sure Sam will put out a Bulletin, soon saying that this is illegal, but I'm sure NO ONE will check it!..Bradham prolly has one or will have one SOON,since he works for Willy....JMO

Anytime you add a pipe like this to the intake tract you can get a Helmholz resonator effect which can definitely effect the torque curve of the engine and trying to get cooler air to the carburetor never hurts.

I've had two instances that I can think of on the dyno where bowl venting was greatly effected by the air filter or carburetor hat housing. Once was on a Ford Cleveland for a Pantera. The guy had an air filter that would fit under the stock Pantera hood. Sort of a T shaped thing with a filter on each side of the and its top sat rather low over the top of the carburetor top. It hurt about 15 horsepower on a 550 horsepower engine with no other changes with or without the elements. But the guy also had a couple of spacers to try between the filter housing and the carburetor, a 1 and a 2 inch so I tested both. With the 1 inch it was dynamite and ran as well as no filter! So thinking if 1 is good 2 must be better I tried the 2 inch and it was a disaster! Worse than no spacer at all.

Another time was on a Ford 5.0 engine with a blow through carburetor and a supercharger. The owner had a carburetor hat and some plumbing that could be run two ways. One was right over the front of the carburetor with a turn by the distributor and over to the blower. The other way was with the hat turned to the right with the elbow over the right valve cover to the blower. The difference between both setups was about 30 horsepower on the 500 horsepower engine! It would get so rich in the front position that the engine would not rev past 5000rpm...
