Macon, IL - With the weeks winding down the points battles are heating up at Macon Speedway. Just three weeks remain in the 2007 season and race teams are fighting for every point as time is running out until the champion is crowned September 15th.

In the Chevrolet Late Models Mike Hammerle has a comfortable 56 points lead over Cory Daughtery and a 126 points lead over Greg Kimmions. Unlike the Late Models, the point battle in the Barbeck Modifieds is much tighter with point leader Jim Leka holding a mere 28 points over 2nd place Randy Myers and just 84 points over Clark Robertson. The points battle in the Hogan Grain / Kubota Sportsman division is very tight among the top three drivers with current point leader Greg Kimmions enjoying a 22 point lead over Decatur’s Mike Pickering and third place driver Scott Landers still in the points hunt just 54 points behind. The tightest point battle amongst the five divisions at Macon Speedway is currently in the Street Stock class. It’s the battle of Decatur as Steve Ewing nervously enjoys a scant 16 point lead over Larry Russell, Jr. and 88 markers over Mike Pickering. Bruce Dulgar, current Hornet point leader, has a certain point lock over Taylorville’s James Hankins by a healthy 120 points and 190 points over third place Todd Rush. The competition will be fierce in each class as drivers fight for each available point.

Race fans… it’s down to the final night to qualify for Tony Stewart’s Tahoe. Race fans will have a greater chance to qualify this Saturday as race officials will pull extra ballots to compensate from lost race dates earlier in the year. The lucky few selected through the blind draw will advance to the final round in Tony’s Big Tahoe Sweepstake. On September 8th one lucky Macon Speedway patron will drive off in the new Chevrolet Tahoe.
Pit Gates open Saturday at 4pm with the Main Grandstand opening at 5pm. Admission prices for this weeks racing are $10 for Adults with Kids under 12 free when accompanied by an Adult. Macon Speedway would like to thank Hogan Grain / Kubota for supporting this Saturday’s racing card.
