CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will offer a possible $6,500 top prize in purse money and bonuses this weekend in the Alabama Bonus Bucks Weekend on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

On Friday night, Penton Raceway will present the $2,000-to-win Stars and Stripes 40, and on Saturday night, East Alabama Motor Speedway will host the $2,500-to-win Salute To The Armed Forces 50. Both events are rescheduled for this weekend after being rained out on May 22 and 23 respectively.

There will also be a $2,000 two-race point fund up for grabs this weekend paying $1,000 to the top point driver, $300 for second-place, and $200 for third-place. If a driver can win both races, GM Performance Parts will pay an additional $1,000 bonus, making for a possible $6,500 payday to sweep both races.

Top entries include NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour regulars including point leader two-time series champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN, Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS, Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL, Jay Blair of Angie, LA, Derrick Rainey of Powder Spring, GA, and Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year point leader Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL.

Also expected are the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA, Brad Hall of Knoxville, TN, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, and Rick Rickman of Columbus, GA.

Drivers just outside the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet points chase looking to race their way in during the next two events this weekend include Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year candidates Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS and Chase Washington of Houlka, MS, along with veterans Eddie Rickman of Columbus, MS and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

Many of the top drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region are also local favorites at the two tracks, and are expected to give the National Touring drivers a run for the big money this weekend.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point leader Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is no stranger to competing with the National Tour drivers. Knowles was the 2008 Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year, and finished third overall in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings last season.

Knowles has chosen to race closer to home in 2009, and has been on a terror in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region competition at Penton Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway. Knowles has seven wins in nine starts, and finished second in the two races he didn’t win. Knowles is also undefeated so far this season at Penton Raceway.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL has used nine top five finishes in nine starts to stay within striking distance of Knowles in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is third in the East Region points, followed by Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL, Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL, and Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL.

Other NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region top 20 local favorites expected include Randy Hester of Columbus, GA, Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Matt Woodson of LaGrange, GA, and Larry Eldridge of Columbus, GA.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series and East Alabama Motor Speedway will team up on Saturday night with the “Ride For Life” program to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will have the opportunity to bid for rides around the track at race speed in a specially built two-seat dirt late model race car.

Race fans will be able to bid for rides with Scott Knowles, Terrance Nowell, Dana Eiland, Montana Dudley, and Derrick Rainey. Chances for a special drawing will also be sold with the winning ticket holder getting to take the “Ride For Life” with the driver of their choice. All of the proceeds will go to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
