POSSIBLE $8,500-TO-WIN NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will embark on a three-day, three-race Alabama Bonus Bucks Memorial Day Weekend Series this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that could pay the winner a possible $8,500 in prize money, point fund money, and bonuses.

The three events will be the $2,000-to-win Stars and Stripes 40 at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL on Friday night, the $2,500-to-win Salute To The Armed Forces 50 on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, and the $2,000-to-win American Freedom 40 on Sunday night at Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL.

The three-race Alabama Bonus Bucks Memorial Day Weekend Series will have over $43,000 in prize money, point fund money, and bonuses up for grabs among the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series drivers.

The series will carry its own three-race point fund paying $1,000 to the top point driver, $500 for second, $300 for third, and $200 for fourth. If a driver can win all three races, that driver will pick up another $1,000 bonus. The three races will feature the top drivers from the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN leads the 2009 National point standings after the first eight races of the season with three top five finishes, five top ten finishes, and one McLeod Construction Fast Time Award. Gentry has 650 points and is looking for his third series title in the last four seasons.

Young Gun Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS is 21 points behind Gentry in the second spot with 629 points based on one top five and four top ten finishes. The 17-year-old driver has also led 13 laps of series competition, and is second in the GM Performance Parts Hard Charger point standings.

Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National standings with 616 points. The “Baker Lawbreaker” has one top five, four top tens, and has completed the most laps of competition in the first eight events with 335 of a possible 340 laps. Boutwell is also tied for the second spot with Cooley in the GM Performance Parts Hard Charger point standings.

Jay Blair of Angie, LA holds down the fourth spot in the series points chase with 598 points after turning in three top fives and four top tens in the first eight events. Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA is fifth with 570 points based on two top fives, three top tens, and one McLeod Construction Fast Time Award.

Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL is sixth in the National standings and also leads the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings. The 2006 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion has one top five and four top ten finishes in the first eight events. Wilson also leads the GM Performance Parts Hard Charger point standings.

Other top ten entries from the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour point standings include the defending National Champion and 2007 Rookie of the Year Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA, Brad Hall of Knoxville, TN, who won the season opener in January, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, and Rick Rickman of Columbus, GA.

Drivers just outside the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet points chase looking to race their way in during the next three events this weekend include Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year candidates Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS and Chase Washington of Houlka, MS, along with veteran Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

Many of the top drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region are also local favorites at the three tracks, and are expected to give the National Touring drivers a run for the big money this weekend.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region point leader Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is no stranger to competing with the National Tour drivers. Knowles was the 2008 Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year, and finished third overall in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings last season.

Knowles has chosen to race closer to home in 2009, and has been on a terror in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region competition at Penton Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway. Knowles has seven wins in nine starts, and finished second in the two races he didn’t win. Knowles is also undefeated so far this season at Penton Raceway.

Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL has used nine top five finishes in nine starts to stay within striking distance of Knowles in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings. Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is third in the East Region points, followed by Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL, Rodgerick Dykes of Smith Station, AL, and Marc Gooden of Lafayette, AL.

Other NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region top 20 local favorites expected include Randy Hester of Columbus, GA, Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Matt Woodson of LaGrange, GA, and Larry Eldridge of Columbus, GA. Top local favorites from Deep South Speedway expected include Larry Cifra, Ryan Little, Stephen Brantley, Randy Little, and Nathan Ingersoll.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series and East Alabama Motor Speedway will team up on Saturday night with the “Ride For Life” program to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will have the opportunity to bid for rides around the track at race speed in a specially built two-seat dirt late model race car.

Race fans will be able to bid for rides with Scott Knowles, Terrance Nowell, Dana Eiland, Montana Dudley, and Derrick Rainey. Chances for a special drawing will also be sold with the winning ticket holder getting to take the “Ride For Life” with the driver of their choice. All of the proceeds will go to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
