Possum Town Grand Prix this weekend

The 7th Annual Possum Town Grand Prix (PTGP) will be the final event of the racing season at Columbus Speedway and promises to the biggest PTGP ever held. The event will once again feature the popular format implemented last year that feature both afternoon and evening sessions with track re-work in between sessions and as needed throughout the event. The format made for a very enjoyable and entertaining weekend of fellowship and great racing action.

The race will once again feature two complete shows for the Super Late Model division with the $2,000 to win Thanksgiving 30 as the headliner of the evening session on Friday night and the $5,000 to win 50-lap PTGP Championship as the headline event of the Saturday night session. The format will call for group qualifying, an expected 4 qualifying races, and main events each night. As always a good field of Super Late Model drivers is expected to be on hand competing for $7,000 possible to win over the course of the weekend.

The PTGP will also play host for the Crate Racing USA Stormpay.com Fall Nationals with over $6,000 possible to win that is expected a large turnout of Stormpay Late Model racers from all over the south to participate in their big weekend.

Action will include both the Stormpay Late Model Weekly Racing Series Race of Champions featuring track champions from the 17 sanctioned tracks and also the Stormpay Weekly Racing Series Race of Regions that will see the top 6 drivers from the 3 regions compete in a 20-lap main event. Qualifying races for these events will be held during the Friday afternoon session while main events will be held during the Saturday afternoon sessions for the fans enjoyment.

There will also be the Crate Racing USA Weekly Racing Series National Championship Invitational on FRIDAY night with the top 120 Weekly Racing Series drivers invited to compete in the 40-lap $2,000 to win main event. The race will determine who the best of the best is as it will be weekly racer versus weekly racer in this invitation only event.

The Crate Racing USA Fall Nationals will culminate during the evening session on SATURDAY night as the bad boys of the Stormpay.com National Touring Series join the fray to compete in their 40-lap $3,000 to win main event that will play a huge roll in determining their series champion, who will receive $20,000 for their efforts. A star studded field is expected in this open competition for the Stormpay.com Late Model Series with some drivers expected to pull double duty for the weekend.

Anybody that has ever been to the PTGP know that the Open Wheel Modified class is a huge part of the show and this year will be no different as the hard charging Modified pilots will be battling for $2,000 to win on their William Wells Auto-Tire-Towing PTGP Fall Championship main event on Saturday evening. Modified will have heat races during the Friday afternoon session, B-Mains during the Saturday afternoon session with their main event Saturday night. As always the Mod drivers put on an entertaining show at Columbus Speedway.

There will also be a Fall Championship for the Street Stocks paying $800 to win and a great turnout is expected in the division that is known for its 3 wide anytime racing. The Street Stocks will compete during both afternoon sessions with heats races Friday afternoon and B-Mains and their main event on Saturday afternoon.

The Late Model Stock/Crate Model division will have the Fall PTGP Championship with a $1,200 to win 20-lap main event. The division will run heats during the Friday evening session, B-Main during the Saturday afternoon session, and main event during the Saturday evening session.

Also of note, the PTGP will get underway with an open practice session on Thanksgiving night which gives those looking for something to do after eating all day a good way to have fun with their racing family.

Driver’s meetings are at 1pm each day.
Afternoon session action targeted at 2:30pm and evening session action targeted at 6pm each day.

Adult admission is $20 on Friday and Saturday with pit passes $30 on Friday and Saturday.
Grandstand admission is free on Thursday night practice with $15 pit passes.
Camping is free. Lawn Chairs and coolers are welcome.
